It was almost midnight and the moon was more half lit, less than full.

Through the way to their destination, Marceline and Damien hadn't spoken a word for the past few hours so all that was heard was their feet crashing the fallen leaves on the trail and the irregular sounds caused by the wind.

"Stop," Damien suddenly said, making Marceline stop on her tracks.

"What? Why?" Marceline asked lowly with a raised eyebrow, but Damien put his index finger on his lips signalling her to keep quiet then he looked around the area before his attention settled on his left side, as the woman beside him walked closer to his spot, she could hear noise coming from distance not too far their left direction.

"Let's check it out," Marceline suggested, but before Damien could object to her suggestion, she had already run off which made the man sigh and run after her, Marceline was running in a fast speed then in a blink of an eye, she jumped on a tree to watch the scene in front of her.

"Ha-ha-ha look at this poor guy, he thinks we are foolish enough to believe that he doesn't have anything valuable for us," there were three males surrounding a guy who was wearing a white sleeveless, leg-level coat with a grey shirt underneath it that had a metallic shield across his abdomen along a pair of white pants and black boots not forgetting to mention the fingerless grey gloves.

"Yeah, then how do you explain the reason why you are here without money or any interesting things?" A man added.

"I'm just lost in this forest, no big deal," the guy answered them with a small shake of his hands in the air.

"Listen, we are not here for nothing, either you give us what we want or we will take everything by force," they said.

"'Everything'?" The guy repeated in confusion.

"Yes everything, including your clothes," a man said with a smirk as the other two laughed.

"What?! Are you crazy?!" The guy exclaimed and casually stood with his hand rubbing the back of his head.

"Well, I guess I have to defend myself, so I will not go easy on you," he continued and sighed with a hint of annoyance, but a dark look had appeared on his eyes when he said the last part of his sentence.

"Let's see how long you can handle our number," another man said while smirking.

"Oh don't worry, there will be no problem-?!" The guy started, but was cut off by Damien interfering as he kicked the first vampire of the gang in his guts and rapidly moved to the second one hitting him in the neck using the edge of his hand, the last man watched in shock as he was faced by Damien's back but decided to dash towards him with his fist. However, the young man caught his wrist from behind and used his body strength to send him flying upwards then downwards to the hard ground in a painful slam, eventually sending the entire men immediately unconscious. Damien cleaned dust off his jacket using his hand then turned to the guy behind him who was looking at him with a wide-opened mouth and a look of disbelief. Silence surrounded the place as the wind played around.

"WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" The guy suddenly snapped which took Damien by surprise.

"Do what?" Damien asked, feeling clueless.

"That!" The guy pointed at the men on the ground.

"You mean saving your life?" It came out more like a statement than a question.

"I was going to kick their butts if you hadn't interfered so no, you didn't save my life," the guy said with an angry tone and glared at Damien who returned the glare back.

"Alright gentlemen, that's enough," Marceline suddenly intervened while walking towards them. Damien closed his eyes and let out a small 'hum' sound as he turned away from the guy before he spoke again.

"You can thank me later," he said which made the guy frown and grit his teeth before responding.

"Well don't wait for that to come out my mouth because it will never happen!"

"Damien," Marceline called the black-haired vampire in a warning tone which was ignored by him as he crossed his arms over his chest and closed his eyes.

"Sorry about that," the woman said to the guy in front of her only to receive no response from him, he was just staring at her. Marceline rose an eyebrow and looked at him, she could see his features properly since she was closer to him; he had an extremely messy, dark-blue hair and sky-blue eyes that reminded her of a beautiful cloudless sky, then the guy suddenly blinked a few times before regaining focus on the female's hazel eyes.

"It's okay. I'm Zen by the way," he said with a smile.

"Marceline," she replied and returned the smile, which made Zen stare at her once again.

"Why are you in this forest?" Damien asked all of a sudden with a hint of annoyance and suspicion. Zen sent him a glare as his hands became sweaty a bit.

"I had something to do here," he answered after a brief silence.

"What kind of thing?" Damien asked, ready to do a whole interrogation.

"Something that has nothing to do with you," Zen answered as they looked at each other with great tension.

"That's enough you two, we need to go," Marceline stopped them and turned to walk next to Damien.

"I will join you," Zen said which got the attention of the pair; there was an awkward silence as the trio looked at each other.

"Fine," Marceline said breaking the silence which made a smile draw on Zen's face. On the flip side, Damien's eye twitched and glanced at Marceline.

"No," Damien declined which caused him to receive a glare from a certain dark-blue-haired person.

"He can help us, Damien," she insisted as he crossed his arms.

"How can you prove that he doesn't plan on doing something behind our back?" He asked, Marceline looked at Zen as he looked back at her but without speaking a word.

"If he was going to do anything bad, he would have done it while we were looking away or while you were fighting those guys right there and wouldn't bother asking to join us, am I right?" She asked looking at Z en who gave her a small smile; Damien sighed and muttered something under his breath before walking off.

"Thank you, Celine," Zen said as he walked past her. Her eyebrows rose when she heard him call her by her short name then she let out a small giggle while shaking her head.

"You're welcome," she finally answered before following behind him.

Zen joined the pair in their journey whichwas a good thing, or that's what Marceline thought.
