"I think that's the last box," Alissa says as she looks around the empty living room. The movers just got done clearing everything out.
It's been a few months since our last blow up and things are definitely better. We called off the wedding and officially separated. We've just been taking it day by day honestly. I let Alissa stay in the house and I moved back to the city.
I guess she didn't want anything that reminded her of us because she ultimately decided to sell her dream home and find her own place. I still get to see Mila whenever I want and we are going to have joint custody over our baby girl when she's born.
Finneas and I are nominated for another Grammy or five, and we're all set to go on tour soon.
"Those overalls make you look huge," I chuckle as I rub her growing belly.
"Oh shut up," she swats my hand away. The silence grows between us before she look over at me with a sad expression. "That song you wrote. I'm sorry I couldn't hold up my end."
She's referring to Everything I Wanted. The song was about her, us actually. Writing it helped me come clean about my nightmares. All I wanted was to have Alissa, build a family and just be happy. But here we are, the exact opposite. Although it sucks it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
I know Mila is better off without two screaming parents and now Alissa doesn't have to try to hide that part of her that still secretly hates me for what I did. I also don't have to continue to apologize for something that I've tried so hard to fix.
"It's all good mama," I kiss the top of her head before we walk out of the house together. "Here's my key."
"Thank you," she takes it and puts in on her key ring. "I'll drop these off to the realtor."
"Ok," I nod as she turns towards her car. "Hey, has she still been trying to reach out?"
"Not since I filed the restraining order," she rolls her eyes.
Come to find out Camille isn't a sweet as she pretends. She's the one who sent me that picture with the help of Alissa's ex coworker. She also was the one who leaked my parents address to my fans. She was really on some crazy stalker shit. She did get what she wanted though, we'll kinda. Alissa and I may not be together anymore, but there is no way in hell she'll be dating Camille.
"Just let me know if you need anything,"
I tell her."Will do," she smiles. "I'm going to go pick up Mila from your mom. Where you headed?"
"I have to see a friend about something I mentioned a while ago," I smirk.
She shakes her head knowingly. "Uh huh well good luck with that."
We part ways and I drive to Mila's old daycare excitedly.
The kids are being picked up as I maneuver my way through the crowd of parents. I come behind the familiar blonde and cover her eyes. "Guess who?"
"Prince Charming," Erin giggles and moves my hands, turning around with a smile.
"In the flesh," I joke and hand her the bouquet of flowers. She applied for
Camille's old job after she was fired for what she did and Erin was hired on the spot. Today was her first day. "So how did it go?""Great," she beams. "I'm so happy they hired me. I love it already."
"I'm glad," I smile. "I was um wondering if you would like to go on that date with me? I don't know if you were serious or not, but we could just have dinner and talk."
Her cheeks blush as she plays with a petal on one of the flowers. "Yeah Billie. I would like that."
Erin and I started hanging out a month ago just as friends. I've been wanting to ask her out, but I would always get to nervous. I finally decided to grow a pair and just do it.
"Where should we go?" I ask as I take her hand in mine.
"Taco bell?" She smirks.
"That's my girl," I chuckle as we walk down the hallway hand in hand.
I can't stop smiling as she goes on and on about the kids in her class. Her face lights up and makes my heart flutter. Something I haven't felt in a while. I help her into her car and we agree to meet up in a few hours. For the first time in a long time I can say I'm pretty excited about where my future is headed.
