Maggie had no idea what she'd gotten herself into, but whatever these kids were doing, she wanted in. She knew she couldn't be a goody two shoes forever and this was something she wouldn't think of doing. Sneaking around the school campus with a bunch of people past curfew hours. And a horse. It was thrilling to her and even though she didn't quite know what was going on, she was finding herself in a smiley mood.
Just getting to be out past curfew was breaking a rule and she loved every bit of it.
With Dwayne, she'd been showed how to get onto the horse and after several tries, she finally got up onto the horse. Dwayne had been a laughing mess the entire time because she really didn't know how to get onto a horse without help or a stool. She did get frustrated because he'd stood around laughing and watching, but got over it easily.
Sitting in the saddle, Dwayne sat behind her as he helped her lead the horse around as they continued to check the perimeter. He kept an eye out for anyone or anything while Maggie kept her eyes glued to the reins, holding onto them as she steered the horse. Dwayne kept the horse at a walking pace, not needing or wanting to go any faster.
She turned her upper body and looked back to him. "How long you been riding?"
"Since I was a young lad." He answered.
"You're really good."
"This ain't the half of it." He told her and she narrowed her eyes on him. "I could teach ya sometime." He suggested.
"Sure, and when I get good enough, I'm gonna race you."
He nodded, not too sure about that, but would allow her to dream of it. He knew he would win and if he had to lose purposely so she could win, he would. It was nice having a decent conversation with someone that wasn't over hockey or studies, and he liked that she seemed to enjoy talking about the country life. However, he hoped it wasn't to impress him because he wouldn't of been glad to know that.
Maggie turned back and faced forward, outstretching her arm and began to pet the horse's shoulder. "My parents never allowed animals in the house growing up." She spoke.
"And now?"
She shook her head sadly. "No. My dad said it was too much to handle, besides, it would ruin the leather."
"Leather?"
She nodded and turned back, the horse stopped on Dwayne's accord. "Yeah, the furniture. And I guess when I think about it, we were busy anyway." She shrugged, not caring. "Guess that's why I hung out with my brother and his friends if mine weren't around."
"They don't like us too much and I understand if you don't either-"
She began to laugh at him. "I don't." She told him. "You guys are the most fun to hang out with...Look what I'm doing!" She shouted the last bit.
"Maggie!" He whisper shouted.
"Sorry." Her cheeks reddened in embarrassment. "I forgot we're undercover." She swung her arms out as if she was an agent or ninja. He shook his head with a chuckle, grasping the reins a bit tighter and kicked the horse's side, wanting it to go forward.
The horse turned the corner and went to a trot, Maggie held on a bit tighter and looped her arm around Dwayne's, that were on either side of her so he could hold the reins as well. Rounding the building, there was a whistling coming from the sidewalk as Cole was walking towards the building.
With him awake, Dwayne couldn't allow him to go inside because it would ruin the entire plan, so, he was going to make sure the guy wouldn't step inside. Maggie grew quiet when they approached and she saw the person in view. "Keep cover." He whispered.
"How?" She asked.
He shrugged. "Dunno, put your hood on." He said.
She did as told. "I got sunglasses too." And proceeded to fetch those from her pocket, placing them on to disguise herself. "Now, we're really undercover."
"Yes you are." He agreed with her.
The horse came to a slow stop and Dwayne had chuckled, getting his lasso out and swung it around to their right. She watched as Cole had stopped and furrowed his brows, his eyes had widened and he went to speak when Dwayne had. "Hey, you a stray calf?" He chuckled.
"What the-"
"Haha, it'd be more fun for me if you ran." He swung the rope and Maggie stared at Cole, his face dropped and he turned, stuttering on his words.
Cole yelled aloud and ran off. Maggie looked back to Dwayne with a giddy face. "I wanna see him hog tied."
"Oh, he will be. Hold on!"
She held onto the horn of the saddle as he grasped the reins with one hand and swung the lasso with his other. The horse started off slow before it got to a rather good pace. Not going too fast or too slow or it would take away the fun for it. Maggie laughed as Dwayne shouted into the night and they chased after the boy along the sidewalk and trees.
"Whoo! Whoo, little doggies!" Dwayne cheered. "Oh, you better run!"
"Guys!" Cole shouted as he looked back, his jacket sleeves falling off his shoulder as he ran his fastest.
Maggie was getting a real kick out if because Cole was sometimes an asshole, but lately he'd been more of an ass towards the JV team. Seeing him yell for help and was vulnerable on his own, it made her laugh and smile. Boy, did she have a story to tell.
"I'm gonna getch you!" Dwayne called, his lasso about ready to swing over his target.
"Guys!" Cole continued to scream. "They got horses!" He shouted, no one heard.
Throwing his arm forward, the rope lassoed around Cole's torso and Dwayne pulled back on the rope. The bigger boy went flying backward and Dwayne smiled, sliding off the side of his horse as Maggie watched, keeping the horse steady. "I got you now, Boy!" He jogged over.
Cole squirmed on the ground as Dwayne quickly tied his feet and hands together behind his back and Cole continued to holler for his friends' help. "Oh man! You're a dead, Man!" He shouted. "Dead! You hear me!?" He grunted as Dwayne stepped away with hands in the air.
Dwayne walked over to his horse and quickly pulled himself up. That's when Cole took a better notice to the second person. He yelled for help, but they could both only laugh before the horse was turned. The horse wandered off around the campus as Maggie led it around and Dwayne continued to laugh.
"That was cool."
"Ain't too bad." He shrugged.
She raised her hand to his and high fived it. "I should hang out with you guys more often."
