Pictures remind me of the past;

Times were tough;

Things didn't last.

I got worse as you moved along,

You stopped loving me,

I couldn't go on.

Dreams were about blood in the sink,

Smiling as I went down;

I'd no longer think.

But then everyday I would wake up,

And pour my life

Into a paper cup.

The silver paintbrush,

Laughed at me,

And said "Hush, hush.

I'll be your best friend

I'll hold you tight

Until the end."

The little match kissed my skin,

Who knew something so good,

Was just another sin?

"Come back!" I'd scream into the night,

Paralyzed by my tears

And all the fright.

Then he came and answered my prayer,

Told me I was broken,

But I could be repaired.

He was there in the loneliest days;

You were soon just a memory.

He helped me through the haze.

Now, through all the pain, I finally feel

Free.
