Mercenary Lover

If you could buy love
She'd give you the pirated
Bat her lashes at you
And for a price leave you sated

But it's always more of less,
Cos it's far from real
Like a predator up above
Coming in for the kill
If it eats at your soul
How could it be love
Or is your soul a diner?

She's the mercenary lover
Let her in? she'll bring a recliner
Till she gets her full pay
And when she withdraws
You'd be withdrawn
Hoping to see the day
She could be dressed as a plaintiff
And still be the defendant
In fact she's a plain thief
Close to my heart like a pendant
She's been roughed up by experience
So she's never unsteady or lopsided
Lately I've been feeling this love is one sided

So caught up in the romance
You took advantage and put me in a trance
I could have snapped out of it
But I was deep in the hypnosis
Of your aura
It was for richer or poorer
Love is supposed to be blind
But with you it's paranoia

So I fell carelessly for Leslie,
Caught my heart like a cold
I sneezed and she said bless me
But still left me in the cold
I was a minor turned a miner
Cos I found gold

(or so I thought)
