11. Bittersweet

Wednesday. Announcement day. Dream woke up with a start. He shot up when he heard a bang come from the room to the right of him. Dream looked around wildly.

"Sorry!" He could hear Abigail yell from across the house. Dream groaned and got up, quickly grabbing breakfast and brushing his teeth, whilst dressing up and combing his hair.

After ten minutes of vigorous multi-tasking, he ran out of the house, catching the first bus and sinking down into his seat.

When he arrived at school, he made his way up the stairs and down the hallway, to the noticeboard. He quickly scanned the papers and there it was.

He started at the bottom, not being able to find his name anywhere. Perhaps they weren't even put in the top ten.

He made his way up and his heart leaped. There, printed in black Calibri font, Clay and George - second place. He felt so happy.

He glanced up to see who won first, but didn't recognise the names. Probably someone younger than him.

Thomas and Tobias - first place.

He scanned the list once more and smiled when he saw Sap and Bad get fourth place. Hey, maybe the second-hand embarrassment wasn't that bad.

Dream was satisfied with second. He walked into the art room with a smile, greeting Knox and sitting down. Oh, he couldn't wait to see George's reaction.

But unfortunately for him, George didn't show up.

Dream spent the rest of the day anticipating for George to randomly come into class or looking around at lunch, if he could spot a brunette boy. His heart nearly stopped when he saw a brunette walking by. He ran after him but stopped when he noticed it was just Wilbur.

"Er.. may I help you?" Wilbur asked, glancing around at the disappointed Dream. Dream gave him an awkward glance.

"Uh no, sorry, I thought you were someone else," Dream said dully, waving and walking past him. Wilbur stared at him for a moment, before running after him. "Huh?"

"I know that look," Wilbur spoke, glancing at Dream, "That's how I look whenever Niki isn't around. The look of longing for something. What's up?"

Dream stared at him for a bit, then looked away. "George. He's been gone for three days now."

Wilbur thought for a moment, then his eyes sparked. "Did you consider going to his house? You know, he can't ghost you if you're there in person."

Dream's hopes rose a bit. "No, I didn't! Thanks, Will, I'll go pay him a visit!" Dream said excitedly, flashing Wilbur a smile and walking off to the bus stop. Wilbur smiled, before getting approached by a much younger blonde boy.

"Saw you got first, Tommy, good job," Wilbur said to Tommy, who was grinning widely. "What did you guys even do?"

"Minecraft in real life! Tested out the weapons in the game and then in real life, obviously with the help of Tubbo," Tommy beamed, showing him a certificate he got, alongside some chocolate.

Wilbur nodded, ruffling the fourteen year old's hair. "Good job. I'm proud of you," Wilbur added sincerely, making the blonde grin even wider.

"Thanks, big man," Tommy replied, taking a bite out of his chocolate and looking around for Tubbo and Techno.

Meanwhile, Dream was on his way to George's house. He texted his mum that he had to do something and he'd come late.

He got on the tram and texted George that he was coming.

Dream: hey, george :] gonna come visit you like.. now! so be prepared haha

Dream sent the text and watched his discord. He decided to read through all of his messages he sent George. Was he being clingy? Annoying perhaps?

Dream stared at his phone and huffed, stuffing it into his pocket and getting off. He recognised the street, he walked down the pavement and soon he reached the familiar blue house.

Dream realised that there was no doorbell at the gate, so he decided to heave himself over the gate, which was quite hard.

He got on top of the bin and jumped over, falling on his knees and groaning quietly. He got up after a minute of laying on the hard ground, rubbing his leg.

Dream walked up to the porch, pressing the doorbell and waiting patiently. His mind started to wander - he started to overthink.

What if he came at the wrong time? What if George wasn't even home and he practically broke into someone else's property. He was caught off guard when the doors opened slowly.

Dream was met with a white face, who's cheekbones were much more prominent. The lady looked tired, had bags under her eyes and her lips were chapped.

That's when Dream realised that he was right. He totally fucked up by coming over in the first place.
