Chapter 8: Flying Solo
Julie and I arrived home after school. After we got off the bike, I took off my helmet and handed it to Julie. "Hey, tell dad Evan is coming over. I have to go get the mats out."
She nodded at me, and we went in different directions. I walked into the studio where I kept my mats. Luke and Reggie were playing together, and Alex was nowhere to be found.
"Where's Alex?" I asked as I walked past them to get the mats
"I don't know." Luke answered while they kept playing.
I dragged both mats outside the garage and laid them down. I was definity not going to try a one-handed lift without some extra cushion to soften my falls. Once I was done, I went back into the studio, closing the door behind me.
"Reggie, what do you think of this riff?" Luke asked as I walked in. He started playing a few chords that meshed well.
"Sweet I'm feeling that." Reggie said, bobbing his head to Luke's riff. I leaned my back on the door and watched the two of them play.
"And then I come in with a little, uh.." Reggie said before playing with him again.
"Then Julie comes in with her killer lyrics." Luke said, and I suddenly got concerned. How did they get her lyrics?
"And Sunset Curve is reborn." Reggie smiled. Oh, yeah this isn't gonna go down well when Julie finds out they went through her stuff. I felt the door open behind me, and I caught myself before I fell.
"Sorry, Dawn!" Julie exclaimed, seeing that I almost fell. The guys turned to us but continued playing.
"It's okay." I replied. Julie then turned to Luke and Reggie.
"Guys, you aren't supposed to be out here playing alone."
"But we're not alone." Reggie started as Luke came up behind him and hugged Reggie. "Cause we always have each other."
"Ugh." Julie responded as she rolled her eyes. She walked to Reggie's amp and unplugged his cord.
"I was with them." I pointed out, trying to help the guys. Julie then started making her way to Luke's amp.
"But... but we had the volume level on one." Luke reasoned. I knew they weren't gonna win on this. Julie was too stressed with Flynn to deal with any of them, and she definitely wasn't thinking about playing with them again.
"But we rocked it on volume ten. Do you two want us to play it again?" Reggie asked. I sent him a tight smile and gave Julie a look that wished her good luck. I went to the couch and pulled out my phone to see if I got any texts from Evan about his ETA.
