KATY WASN'T SURE IF SHE WAS ACTUALLY IN THE GLEE CLUB OR NOT. Taking a short breathe of air, she pushed open the choir room door, grimacing as it squeaked slightly, attracting all attention to her.

"Can we help you, Miss Puckerman?" Mr Schuester smiled at her kindly.

Pulling the cuffs of her sweater over her hands, Katy nodded her head, looking over to Brittany, Finn and Tina, who were all smiling at her, "I would like to join glee club, if you'll let me."

Rachel stuck her hand up immediately, as she whipped her head around to see the room of smiling faces, "she can't just join!"

"Shut it, hobbit." Santana snapped, throwing her a harsh glare, making Rachel slump back into her seat, embarrassed, "she never said she was just joining."

Quick to calm down the fiercely protective girl, Mr Schue nodded with head to call Katy closer to the group, "well she doesn't have to, as your audition, you can take the lead on the number today." He told her, handing her the sheet music to 'Tonight' from West Side Story.

As the sheet music went around the class, Rachel was given another reason for outrage when she saw the solo that had been given to the new girl, "Mr Schuester, I thought I made it very clear that anything from West Side Story goes to me."

"You're the one who wants Katy to audition, Rachel." Mr Schue defended as Katy stood in the middle of the room, awkwardly fiddling with the sheet music.

"But Mr Schuester! Maria is my part!" Rachel protested, desperately, "I have a deep and personal connection to the role!"

Getting more awkward and nervous, Katy felt guilty for the argument she'd caused and was quick to speak up before Mr Schue could continue to attempt to make Rachel back down, "it's okay, I can sing something else. Mamma Mia's more my style — you know — ABBA."

Rachel flashed her a victorious smile, marching forward to take the sheet music from her but Mr Schuester got there first, handing the sheet music to Tina.

"I thought I had the solo now."

"I was originally going to give the solo to Tina." Mr Schue told the outraged girl as she flared her nostrils at him.

Setting her alto part down with a large crunch of paper, Rachel furrowed her eyebrows angrily, "you're trying to punish me!" She accused, leaving the rest of the room watching on awkwardly, "I think you're being unfair!"

"I think you're being unfair, to Tina, who might be happy about getting her first solo." He paused, remembering where the argument came from, "and Katy, who's new here." And obviously nervous, he thought, but he didn't want to expose her like that.
