-wedding day!!-
Oh my God. I'm getting married today.
The realization set in when I woke up in bed alone. Nessa had kicked all of the guys out, getting them some rooms in the hotel that we were having the wedding in. I looked at my phone. Six-thirty in the morning. Lovely.
I heard voices in the hallway and went out to see who it was.
"Makeup and hair will be here at seven. We should be done by noon. We can eat and head to the hotel by one-thirty. Get dressed, be ready for the ceremony at three," Nessa was outlining the day's itinerary as she paced in front of Addison and Dixie. "We need to get everyone else up. Daisy can sleep later. Cynthia, Avani, Amelie: they need up now. Mads and Sarah already left to go get everyone's coffees. Move out, ladies.""Sir, yes, sir!" I joked, fully walking into the hallway. "Ready for today, sarge?"
"I want this to be perfect for you! I'm really excited!" she replied, pulling me into her bedroom. She had set it up with nine vanity tables with everyone's name in lights.
"You went all out," I said, looking at the room in wonder.
"We can put them in storage. I don't know if everyone is gonna marry who they're with right now, but there's bound to be at least two or three more," she replied.
I laughed. "Is that how you justified the expense when Josh asked about it?"
"Yes, ma'am, and I'd do it again for my best friend," she said, pushing me into the chair in front of the vanity with my name on it. "I hired a photographer to come early to get pics of us getting ready. I hope that was okay."
"Absolutely! That's a great idea! Vinny is with the boys right now. I'll text Bryce and tell him to have Vinny take pics of them today."Mads and Sarah walked in with all of our drinks, the rest of the girls spilling in behind her. I thanked Mads as she handed me my drink. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" Nessa yelled, running down the stairs.
She came back up with a team of hair and makeup artists. "Alright ladies! Let's get this show on the road!" Dixie turned on my getting ready playlist, and we all sat and talked while the artists worked their magic and the photographer took photos from all angles.
I stopped her. "I hate to ask this, but do you mind taking a quick shot on my phone for me to post?" She nodded and snapped a couple before handing my phone back to me. I picked my favorite and got ready to post."Can I take a break really quickly?" I asked the makeup artist, knowing I was probably being so frustrating.
She nodded and I got up to get Daisy up. As I brought her into the room, I sat her on my lap, playing with her as they put the finishing touches on my makeup. As all of the girls were finished, Nessa stood up. "We're ahead of schedule! It's only eleven! You know what that means!"
"More pictures!" the girls yelled, causing Didi to jump in my lap. Everyone laughed."Bride, can you turn toward me a little?" the photographer instructed. "Alright! Smile, ladies!" she snapped more pictures as we all laughed.
We thanked her when she was done, and she left as our lunch arrived.
Nessa's phone rang with a text message. "JJ is telling Bryce to be nice to you," she laughed, reading the text from Josh.
I giggled. "Leave it to JJ to always look out for Auntie Kate."Amelie came up to me just then. "Have you given any more thought to who's giving you away? I know you said you didn't care, but if you changed your mind, we can make that happen for you," she told me, patting my knee.
I knew that they would do anything to make this special for me, but I was out of options. My first thought was Jaden. He'd truly become one of my best friends, but he was a groomsman. My next thought was John, Jaden's dad, but he was officiating the wedding. I knew a couple of other people, but I didn't want someone random giving me away at my wedding. I would be just fine walking down that aisle by myself. "It's okay, really. My dad didn't want to come, and that's fine. I don't have to replace him with anyone."Nessa was yelling again. "We are slightly behind schedule now, people! Grab your dresses and shoes and let's get to the Uber, please!"
We all scrambled to our rooms, grabbing our dresses and shoes and running to the Uber.
"Good work, ladies! Here we go!" Nessa said, climbing in last.We drove to the hotel in almost complete silence. Didi sat next to Avani, who was playing peekaboo with her.
When we got there, Nessa led us to the suit that Bryce and I would stay in that night. "Alright, ladies! Let's get her in her dress. She's got her first look with Bryce in twenty-five minutes."
The nerves settled in as the girls fawned over me. "What if he changes his mind? What if he sees me and decides that I'm not really the one for him?"
Cynthia was firm. "Shut the fuck up. You know that man loves you. There's been no one else for him since the day you delivered his Postmates. You know that, I know that, every person in this room knows that."While her tough love approach was harsh, it did calm my nerves. "You're right. You're all right."
There was a knock on the door. Vinny peeked his head in. "We're ready when you are, Kate."
I smiled at him nervously. "I'm ready, Vinny."
"Let's go then," he said, holding his arm out to me.
He led me out into the courtyard, where I could see Bryce standing on a small bridge. "How do you think he'll react?" I asked Vinny.
"It could go either way. I say he cries."
We approached Bryce slowly. "Hey, baby," I said softly as he turned to face us.
