A teenage girl walked out of a corner shop with earphones blasting. She had a half drunk bottle of coke in one hand and a phone in the other.
She had just finished her shift. She had been working there for about two months. It was the longest she had stayed at one job. She had been bouncing around different shops and restaurants since she turned sixteen, trying to earn some money to support herself.
It had been nine months. Nine months since she moved into a tiny flat with someone she only talked to to pay the rent. Nine months since she had left Shield. With much resistance from her 'friends'. By that she means the only people who would train with her. Or talk to her for that matter.
Apparently child assassins aren't very popular amongst government officials.
But there were the few that liked her. That helped her. That forgave her. The few that accepted her as one of them.
She had been at Shield for two years before deciding she wanted to start over. Forget about the guilt she carried every day. So she packed up all she had and told director Fury she needed to go. So he arranged for a jet to take her to London, where she grew up.
"Sorry." She apologised as she bumped into someone. She looked up from her phone to see who she had walked into and her jaw nearly dropped. She ripped the earphones from her ears and paused the music, pocketing the phone.
"What the hell are you doing here Fury? I thought we had a deal." She said and turned around, only for him to start walking along side her.
"You shouldn't disrespect your elders like that. Where are your manners?"
"Would you like to find out?" She threatened, momentarily standing still before realising they were on a pavement full of people. She didn't want to cause a scene and draw attention to them.
Noticing the look on her face, he nodded his head in the direction of a nearby diner
and the two walked into it.They got a booth near the back away from prying ears.
"I have a proposition for you Vic-"
"I don't want to hear anything until you buy me dinner." She interrupted, "I'm starving."
So the two waited in silence until a waitress came over to take their orders.
"Can I have a classic beef burger with skin-on fries, and a bowl of onion rings for the table please. His treat." She gave a sarcastic smile to the man across from her.
"Is that all."
Victoria raised her eyebrows at him, silently asking if he wanted something. When he shook his head she replied, "Yes, thank you."
After ten minutes the food came and Vic demolished it. She was just glad to have a meal that didn't need to be microwaved.
"What about this proposition then?" She asked, stuffing a few fries into her mouth.
Fury took a few files from his inside pocket and slid them onto the table.
"Do you remember the avengers initiative?"
"I think Natasha mentioned it after the Stark case. Why?" She opened the file closest to her. It was on a man named Steve Rodgers. Or more commonly known as captain America.
Nick took an onion ring and watched in amusement as she read up on her soon-to-be teammates. Her eyes widened and jaw dropped at certain times.
"As interesting as this is, why are you showing me it?"
He said nothing. Only gave her one more file, staring her dead in the eyes.
"What the hell is a Loki?"
