Chapter one

I wake to the sounds of an owl by my window. I've never seen before other than in photos so I was shocked at first. He just looked at me as if waiting. I moved closer half expecting him to fly away but he stayed still almost like it's what he was trained to do as I got closer I noticed he had something on his foot. I moved slowly and very carefully I removed what seemed to be a letter wrapped around his foot. The letter was addressed to me! I looked at it with the utmost caution as I began to remove the envelope I opened the letter and began to read

Dear Apryl Hayes,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been excepted into Hogwarts School for Witches and Wizards.

In this letter you will find we have included a list of supplies you will need for your first year at Hogwarts and a ticket.

I read in shock I was a wizard but there is no such thing as wizards. Thoughts ran there my head a mile a minute. I thought maybe people were pranking me but as I thought it over I didn't know anyone. i turned to the next page and continued reading.-

First-year students will require:
Uniform
Three Sets of Plain Work Robes (Black)
One Plain Pointed Hat (Black) for day wear
One Pair of Protective Gloves (dragon hide or similar)
One Winter Cloak (Black, silver fastenings)
Please note that all student's clothes should carry name-tags at all times.

1 set of glass or crystal phials
1 telescope
1 set of brass scales
Students may also bring an Owl, a Cat or a Toad.
PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS.

I stairwell at the letter confused not knowing what to do.
I ran downstairs almost right into my mom and said "Are you guys pranking me?"
They looked at me both shocked and confused. I showed my mom the letter and a small frown began to grow across her face.
"I was hoping we would have more time before we had to tell you" she said
I could tell my mother was on the verge of tears but she pushed through it and continued speaking
"when you were a baby we found you at an orphanage after we couldn't have a kid. the orphanage had no information on you but a year later we received a letter from a man named Albus Dumbledore it explained that you were a wizard and that you would receive a letter from his school we never knew when."

I was shocked. My heart dropped. How had I never realized the difference in our appearances or how when they looked at me I could see pity build in there eyes.

"I'm sorry baby this doesn't make us love you any less-" she started before I cut her off.
"who are my parents?"
"we don't know" her face changed she seemed sad.

Then the door bell rang....
