When I woke up, I was ravenous. My stomach seemed to eat on itself and I was even weaker than when I first went to sleep. None of this helped ease my fear, that's been exponentially growing since the morning.

Caiden's hand was around my waist and he was soundly asleep. Oh, Sheila was going to kill me for staying with Caiden. He was my friend, but he was weird, no matter how much I tried to ignore it. And the common instinct on campus was to avoid him. I truly believed that people could really sense when something's off with someone. And everyone sensed this about Caiden. Except for me, I decided to run to him in my most vulnerable state.

My head hurt from thinking, so I pinched the bridge of my nose and closed my eyes shut. My stomach rumbled, begging me for food. It wasn't just my stomach, though, it was my entire being. The need to sink my teeth into anything made of flesh was frightening. I shook Caiden next to me, wondering why did I ever invite him to sleep with me. That rumour is definitely going to catch on if someone sees me leaving his room.

His sleepy eyes opened and for a moment, a strange expression of bliss crossed over his face. In the next moment, he must have remembered everything that happened because a shade of concern coloured his features.

"Are you alright?" He asked, squinting at me.

"Hungry." I said, flinching immediately once I heard my voice. It was low, guttural and almost animalistic. I focused my gaze on him, demanding food. Right now.

"Gee, okay. What do you want to eat?" Caiden got out of the bed.

"Meat." I answered, trying to keep my voice normal. "And... uh, carrots." For some reason, I thought carrots made it sound more normal.

"Okay... what kind of meat?" Caiden seemed confused by my request. Frankly, I wasn't much of a meat person. I ate a steak last time when I was fifteen. Oh, a steak.

"Steak." My mouth began to water at the thought of it. "Raw." My request surprised me and I felt the sudden urge to hide from myself. Of course, I knew something was wrong. I felt wrong. Every nerve-ending in my body felt wrong. That didn't mean I was about to admit it.

"Okay, let me call my personal chef." Caiden rolled his eyes at me, but the thought of not getting a raw steak right now was thoroughly unacceptable. I grabbed Caiden by his arm and pulled him closer, my nails almost piercing his skin.

"Get me a bloody animal!" I shouted, which made Caiden wiggle out of my grip. Anger crossed over his features and I was immediately sorry. But it was too late, Caiden already realised something was extremely wrong.

"What the fuck, Chloe?" He asked, stepping away from me.

"I'm sorry!" I shouted, but my voice broke. Weakness washed over me and everything began to scratch and burn. I scratched my arms to the point that Caiden grabbed both of them and kneeled on the bed in front of me, staring into my eyes.

"Stay here, I'll get you some meat, weirdo." He said, inspecting my eyes. His voice lacked any humour and that concerned me. Strangely enough, I wanted my room back home. I wanted my mother to cradle me to sleep and tell me everything would be alright. But that couldn't happen, because I was far away from home and my mother would never be that gentle.

Caiden left the room, leaving me alone and restless. The hunger was so immense that I began inspecting the room for anything edible. I found some bubble-gum, but that didn't help. My teeth hurt when I tried chewing. There had to be a reasonable explanation for this.

I wasn't this crazed every time I went without food for a couple of hours. Sometimes, I spent a whole day not eating anything, too wrapped up in responsibilities and chores I had for the day. But now, I couldn't think clearly with this rumbling in my stomach.
