STRANGERS' PASS
(A poem by @eleonne)

A village half buried in snow,
a lonely place, frigid, forlorn,
where a mysterious thing lurks about,
an old tale, nothing more, without a doubt.

And yet they say,

When the valley grows dark,
the snow consumed by the night's black,
take heed of this warning:
Steer clear of Strange One's Pass.

Like darkness it creeps, it devours
Calling his prey's name, it grows louder by the hour.
And when it has called your name,
it will come for you; there is no escape.
Closer and closer it draws, the deeper you are seized by fear
into hollow depths, tugging between sanity and nightmare.

Such is the way with old tales;
Folveshch, that is its name.

So stray not beyond anyone's sight
Be a good child, close all your windows at night.
Mind not the face peering through your window,
the mad blue eyes, the jagged teeth, that wicked grin of terror.
Ignore his claws scratching on the glass,
for the night will eventually pass.

And steer clear of Strange One's Pass,
lest you be like the other good men of Renkassk -
They breathe, but have ceased living,
their remaining days spent staring, but no longer seeing.

Though I know not from where the Foul Thing lies,
I do know where the monster pries.
Stray not from daylight's path
and steer clear of Strange One's Pass.

But such is the way with these old tales
Of this Folveshch, I am not afraid.
It does not exist,
this cannibal that prowls in the mist.

Let it not call my name
Let it not smell my fear
Let me not cross its path
Let me not stray by Strange One's Pass.
