Catra sat steaming in Scorpia's front seat, arms crossed over her chest and face sat in a furious frown. Scorpia was quite the opposite, grinning like a mad man trying to do a playful dance in her seat. They were both wearing party hats and a "Happy Birthday" banner hung in the backseat of Scorpia's car. Catra had not been thrilled when her friend had picked her up this morning, her mother had insisted on taking a million pictures of them. 'What a wonderful birthday.' Catra thought grumpily, a huff bitterly escaping her. She hadn't been sleeping, ever since she had left Adora's house nightmares had plagued her, making her extra irritable.
"SO I know you're going to Adora's after school- BUT would you want to do something tomorrow? Just us?" Scorpia was looking at her with those damn puppy eyes, Catra tried to grit her teeth but instead she softened.
"Yeah, that's fine." Catra replied flatly, Scorpia instantly lighting up at Catra's agreement, even if it was a reluctant one. Remembering she was supposed to see Adora today made her stomach turn slightly, it's not that she wasn't happy to see the blonde, in fact she had missed her immensely. But the memory of Adora's blood on her hand sent a shiver down her spine, the thought of ever hurting the girl she cared so deeply for ever again tore at her heart. Catra wanted desperately to talk to Adora, to answer the many messages she had received since she had last seen her childhood friend, but the feeling of guilt prevented her. Catra had hurt Adora, she didn't deserve to feel her love. She deserved punishment.
"Or you know Adora could come too?" Catra glanced over at her best friend at that tone, snapped out of her clawing thoughts if just for a moment, she had a bit of a snarky grin.
Catra's sharp eyes could've cut through steel. "What are you implying?" Catra growled lowly, Scorpia's car pulling into a spot in the school parking lot.
"Oh nothing." Scorpia cooed coolly, flicking her door open to slide out. "Just that maybe I want to get to know your crush." That did it. Catra was out of the car and sprinting after Scorpia within moments, the taller girl easily outpacing her as laughter bubbled out of her.
"Scorpia get back here!" Catra screeched, only being met with laughter. Today was going to be a long day.

Adora and Swiftwind were bouncing around the kitchen, Adora singing loudly as Swiftwind followed her howling in harmony. In the other room Angella pushed her earbuds into her ears further, sucking in a mildly annoyed breath. It was the last day of Adora's suspension and her foster daughter was ecstatic for her friend's birthday, she knew that, but she couldn't help being thankful that this would be the last school day Adora would be home. Over the last few days she had quickly learned that Adora and her lovely dog were in complete sync, meaning if one was being obnoxious so was that other.
Adora was baking a lemon cake, her blue eyes sparkling with such joy that was only matched by Swiftwind's own sparkling eyes. Her mind could only focus on the girl she was going to see today, the girl she loved, to celebrate her birthday with her. Adora was ecstatic. Though she had not heard from Catra the last few days she hadn't explicitly said their plans were cancelled, so Adora's plan was still set to go see Catra. Her gift was wrapped, the cake would be ready soon, and she had flowers ready for transport. She could vibrate from excitement. Swiftwind, not really sure why Adora was in such a good mood, was just happy to be following behind Adora cleaning up any spilled cake batter and matching her singing with his own.
Throwing the now mixed cake batter into the oven she hummed, spinning around to bend down and take Swiftwind's paws into her own hands so they could be eye level. "Oh buddy, I know you haven't met her yet but this girl, she makes me so happy!" Swiftwind yipped, tail thundering behind him. "We've known each other basically our whole lives, we got seperated for a while but now she's back in my life and I just want to make her mine!" Adora dropped the dog's paws, spinning around in the kitchen once more laughing happily. Swiftwind barked, running a circle around his spinning friend in excitement. Adora's laughter was filling the kitchen like music.
The pair carried on like this for the rest of the baking time, when the timer went off Adora was so excited that she almost burnt herself in the process of pulling the lemony cake out of the oven and plopping it onto the counter. Humming to herself, feet tapping in time with her humming, Adora left the cake to cool as she snatched up her phone to see if Catra had responded to her earlier message.
"Happy birthday beautiful I can't wait to see you later!" Her text read, followed by a flurry of heart emojis, still left unanswered.
"Well.. she didn't say I'm not seeing her later!" Pushing away the small spike of anxiety she replaced her phone where it had sat earlier on the counter to spring back over to the cake and start frosting it. Swiftwind jumped up on the counter to watch his human friend frost the cake, as she finished to him and Adora it looked like a masterpiece! To anyone else however, it probably looked like the work of a five year old.
"Alright now I just pack everything up and wait!" Adora narrated to her canine pal, searching through the cabinets for a tupperware big enough to contain the cake she had created for her Catra. In all the ruckus, Angella had finally given up working for the time being, making her way out into the kitchen just as Adora whooped with success at finding a tupperware for her cake. The older woman rolled her eyes, her foster daughter never ceased to amuse her.
"That for Catra?" Angella asked gently, Adora and Swiftwind both leapt with surprise, they hadn't noticed Angella come around the corner. "You two share a brain I swear." Angella grumbled, pinching the middle of her brow to appear annoyed but Adora caught her foster mother's giggles hidden behind her hand, sending her a dorky smile as she resumed stuffing her cake into the box.
"Yes it is and yes we do!" Adora chirped back, Swiftwind barking as if in agreement. Angella couldn't hide her amusement any longer, letting her hand fall to freely laugh at the already bonded pair.
"I'm glad you two are getting along but I'm working, behave." Angella warned good naturedly, Adora giggled but nodded.
"Don't worry I'll be going over to Catra's soon to give her her birthday presents!" Adora was practically vibrating with excitement again and Angella gave a found shake of her head.
"Oh puppy love." She murmured as she made her exit from the kitchen, leaving Adora to giggle with Swiftwind.

Catra couldn't stand the constant noise, high school was loud and annoying but it was particularly trying on her today. Even the clock felt loud as the seconds ticked away, she could feel her sharp nails digging into her thighs, the day could not be over faster. It hadn't been a bad day, quite the opposite in fact, Scorpia and Entrapta were obnoxious but they were sweet. Entrapta had given her a weird glowy card that she had put together herself, Scorpia was just being her normal loving self, even Adora's foster sister seemed to remember her birthday and bought a snack cake for her at lunch. But the thought of the school day ending, seeing Adora, seeing her hand that she had injured, it felt like she was going to throw up.
'I should've cancelled..' Bicolor eyes drifted to her phone, turned over on the top of her desk. 'I could still cancel.' The thought crossed her mind, it would be so easy to pick up the phone and tell Adora she was busy, she was sick, she didn't want to see her, it would be so easy to just pick up the phone and lie. To send herself back home to be alone, to punish herself for hurting her friend, it's what she deserved right?
Tearing her eyes away from the device with a growl, claws that were digging into her pants now finding a place on her arms to sink into flesh, her heart was thumping in her chest like a drum. Sucking in a shaky breath the thought of excusing herself to the bathroom was inviting, but drawing any attention to herself made the feeling of bile rise in her throat. Pinching her eyes shut, she tried to even her breathing, sweat started to bead on her forehead, it was so hot in the classroom.
The bell rang, throwing Catra back down to earth as the students around her began to move and exit the room. Eyes now opened wide, mouth agape with pants, covered in sweat, she couldn't help but feel embarrassed. No one seemed to notice at least. Quietly gathering her things Catra took note that her hands were shaky, pushing the thought away she shoved herself to her feet. Guilt still weighing heavily on her shoulders Catra found herself unfocused, the wild haired brunette dazing in and out of focus throughout her classes. Thoughts of cancelling plagued her mind, but everytime she went to grab her phone, opening the messages from Adora felt impossible, like her own fingers would not follow her commands.
Getting back into the car with Scorpia finally to leave the school for the day, her head felt like static, Scorpia was talking but she couldn't hear her. The thought of seeing Adora soon was sending her through a million emotions, the thought of those icy blue eyes staring into her own, sent a shiver down her spine that she couldn't decipher. When Scorpia finally rounded the final corner to Catra's house the lithe girl left with a grunt, slipping into the house ignoring a screaming Fang, to hide away into her room. Fang sat at the door, gently yowling as if pleading for his friend to let him in.

Adora felt like she was flying as she bounded down the road to Catra's house, Glimmer had offered to give her a ride but she had been too excited to wait for Glimmer to arrive home. Swiftwind had been anything but pleased as his human companion left him in the dust. Adora had an excited dorky grin plastered on her face, this was going to be the first time she had seen Catra since that night, since they kissed, since she realized Catra feels the same. Her heart felt light in her chest, as if each step she took was taking her closer to the girl that felt like home.
When the familiar house was in view Adora found herself racing to get to it, wrapping on the door to be greeted by Miranda.
"Adora it's nice to see you, Catra is upstairs!" She greeted with a cheery smile, stepping aside to let the blonde pass.
"Thank you, it's nice to see you too!" Adora called over her shoulder, doing her best to be polite, but her and Miranda both knew who she was really here to see. Fang was glued to Adora's side in an instant, the girl found it odd that Fang was here and not upstairs with Catra, but shrugged it off as she flew up the staircase. Coming to Catra's bedroom her heart hammered in her chest, it had only been days since she had seen her love but she couldn't help her buzzing excitement.
Knocking softly, she received no answer, with a shrug she turned the handle and poked her head in. "Catraaa! Happy birthday!" Adora called, attempting to keep her voice low to not startle Catra, whose back was turned to her currently, but the other girl didn't even seem fazed. Taking silence as an invitation Adora crept in, sliding her Tupperware of cake onto the bed, along with the flowers and present she had wrapped to the best of her ability. Catra didn't seem to notice the shift of weight on her bed, even as Adora placed herself on the sheets, creeping herself up behind Catra to pull the smaller girl into a hug from behind. Burying her face into the side of Catra's neck, her wild mane of hair curling around her as she did, she inhaled to take in Catra's familiar scent.
"God I missed you." Adora purred against her neck, placing a gentle kiss on the skin as her eyes lulled shut. She could stay like that forever. Catra still hadn't responded, hadn't even moved really, hadn't acknowledged Adora at all.
"This was a mistake." Adora's eyes opened, lifting her head from the Catra's neck to give the shorter girl a puzzled look.
"What?" Icey anxiety started to fill Adora's chest, she wasn't sure she wanted to know what Catra had meant.
"This." Catra replied flatly, throwing Adora's off from around her waist without a second glance. Adora flinched as if it physically hurt. "You shouldn't have found me again." Adora sat for a minute staring at Catra's back, hurt clearly shining in her eyes.
"Catra.." Adora reached out her hand once more, the hand that Catra had clawed in her terror the nights before, it was mostly healed now. It would be nothing more than a small scar soon. Catra flinched away.
"Stop." Adora froze, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "I don't want you here." Adora opened her mouth, questions and pleas for Catra to talk to her instantly dying in her throat as the girl she loved turned around and stared into her with unfeeling gold and ice blue. The girl she loved was not behind those mismatched eyes. "Leave."
Maybe it was the way Catra's eyes were unflinching, or the way her voice didn't waver, but Adora felt tears fall down her cheeks. All the words she had died in her throat. She did as she was told.

A/N: Y'all didn't think I was giving you a rational mentally healthy Catra, did you? Adora is a uhaul lesbian my mind CANNOT be changed.

Anyways hi, I'm alive, I'm very sad and mourning but I've been really wanting to write this story again. This was always meant to happen though I didn't just add it cause I'm sad don't get it twisted. I'm not SUPER happy with this chapter but honestly it was really holding me back. I couldn't get past it for some reason, so I just did my best and I hope you guys like it! I may go back and edit this a bit more, but for now here we are! As of right now I don't have an upload schedule with this story, there is still plenty more to the story I wanted to write but I needed time, and I don't want to push myself. So we'll see where we go from here, but for now enjoy!
