"It's past the Old Miller Road."

"Got it." you say, hurrying to add that on the sticky note.

"It's a very old home ma'am. And my employer is anxious to... move on."

"I understand, but I'm not a real estate agent sir. I mean, not technically. I just run a blog about old houses." you laugh. He doesn't.

"What is the soonest you can be here, miss?" the man asks instead.

"Oh um, I just need to tie some things up over here and then I can head down. I can be there by Friday if that's okay?" you ask.

"Friday works well. We'll see you soon." he says before hanging up.

"Okaaay....that was kinda rude" you say to yourself as you hang up your phone.

You're very confused as to why they reached out to you. Like you said several times, you're not a real estate agent. You just like old architecture. Victorian houses, abandoned mansions, pharmacies that haven't updated anything since the forties when they first opened.

It started out as a hobby, taking pictures of run down places in your neighborhood before you eventually started posting them online because come on, there's gotta be someone else out there who likes abandoned ghost town looking things, right?

You didn't expect your blog to become a hit right away but surprisingly enough, it did. When you mentioned that you had run out of places to shoot in your city, your followers had started listing places in their hometown, or places they knew of that they thought you'd be interested in. And so you hit the road. Traveling the country to photograph old houses and businesses.

Afterwards the inboxes started flooding with all sorts of messages. People wanting to buy one of the houses you listed, someone else wanting to donate to help restore an old business, or even wanting to donate to you for keeping the blog running.

You never thought you'd be able to make a steady income by running a blog, but hey, you are not complaining. So yes, every once in a while, you'll forward the house listing to someone who's interested in the place. And yes, sometimes they end up purchasing it. But you are by no means a real estate agent. And you have no idea why this old man called you, specifically, to list the house. But, you're not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. It's an old house and you need new content. Common sense.

With that in mind, you grab a bottle of water from the fridge and make your way back to your room. You take a seat at your desk and stick the post-it note on your monitor, for later, and finish up some work things. Reply to emails, check. Pick and edit photos for the next blog post, check. Queue next few days of content and set your website on vacation mode, double check.

You step away from your computer and do a quick stretch before digging your luggage out of your hallway closet. You pull out your phone and quickly look up the weather in Shelbyville, wanting to pack accordingly. It says it's gonna be warm so you pack light clothes. Some shorts and a couple of tee shirts. Then you add a pair of jeans..and a sweater. Then you think about whether or not you should dress up to make a good first impression, so you add a few sundresses. Of course you need shoes so you add strappy sandals and a couple pairs of sneakers before finally zipping up your bag.

I always do this, you think to yourself annoyed. You're only going to be there for a day, two tops. Shaking your head you bring your luggage by the front door and add all your essentials into your purse before setting that on top of your suitcase.

Once you're done packing, you go straight to bed. You've got a long drive ahead of you. You just hope it's worth it.

You just hope it's worth it
