Liz shuts her eyes tight as her fists clench on her thighs. Her irritation was peaking from the buzzing and vibrations of her phone beside her. She was just trying to make a living for herself by making essays for other people online, but apparently, her boyfriend's neediness wasn't going to let her.
She knew he wasn't ever going to stop calling until she answered and so she did.
"Avan, I'm losing my train of thought here. I'm making an essay," she groans, putting her phone on speakerphone and laying it right beside her.
"I miss you."
Her eyes roll involuntarily at his tone, just knowing he was jutting his lower lip out from where he was.
"We saw each other this morning."
"Yeah, and? A boyfriend can't miss his girlfriend?"
"Shut up," she scoffs as the click-clack of her fingers against the keys of the laptop intensified.
"Baby," he coos. "I love you."
"Mhmm."
"Ask me how much."
She sighs, "How much?"
"So much," he replies, prolonging his vowels to exaggerate. "How much do you love me?"
"Don't be a child, Avan. You know I love you."
Whether talking like this is just his flirting tactics or if it's just how he really is once he gets into a relationship, Liz couldn't determine. It was sweet when she was in the mood to be affectionate with him. However when she needed to write an essay for her part-time job, it was the most annoying thing in the universe to her ears.
"Yeah, I know but how much?"
"Dude, stop being so needy please," she whines.
"Oh, okay."
Avan deflated at her tone. She knew he was frowning just by how he sounded. Liz couldn't help but be guilty. He's stuck with her through breakdowns and burnouts so what excuse did she have not to give back the same amount of love and care he gave to her?
"Bubba, I'm sorry," she sighs. "Please don't be upset."
"I'm not."
"Yes, you are," her hand comes flying up to her hair. "Look, I love you so much, Av, but I've got this really long essay to make and I'll have to write college entrance essays as well after this. I'm busy, Bubba. I'm so sorry."
"Can you come over for dinner later? Only if you're not busy by that time though."
"Come over where?"
"My house," he states like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "The parents want to meet you."
Liz starts choking on her own saliva. She pats her chest over and over until she calms down.
They've only been dating for about 3 or 4 weeks at this point. She didn't know if she was ready to meet his parents. Liz isn't at the best point of her life right now so she was anxious about how his parents would react to their son dating someone like her. She was barely starting to get her life together with the bare minimum wage she was getting from making essays. Her applications for community college scholarships weren't being responded to as of the moment. Liz would completely understand if they won't like her for their son but that doesn't mean she wasn't scared of it ever happening.
"Hey, you still there?"
She doesn't reply.
"Baby Lizard," he singsongs. "If you're busy tonight, we can reschedule."
