January 2020,

I looked at my phone checking the time. The number 06.20PM is written. I still have an hour before my shift ended.

I looked around the store. Empty... Wondering, why am i still working here?

No other place would accept me. All job interviewers turn me down. Only this bookstore, looking empty as always. The owner barely visit, let alone take care of this place.

Why am I working?

Oh yeah, my parents don't even care about me. Expecting me to survive alone, without giving me any money, just send me off. Basically they kicked me out, in a "friendly-er" way.

But working here, im barely making any money. I should really look for a new job asap.

Without realizing, 40 minutes had passed.

Ring...

The doorbell rang. It's pretty unusual. I checked the entrance and saw my boss came in. That's unusual too.

"It's past closing time, why are you still here?" He asked, kind of worried.

"I'm getting ready to go home sir" I answered, packing my stuff and getting my bag.

As i head towards the entrance door, flipping the 'open' sign to 'close', a hand grabbed my shoulder.

"Mr. Kim" He called my name as I feel shiver down my spine. Before I could answer his called he said.

"You're fired"

Great,

I guess I'm jobless now

"W-what?" I stuttered. Although I don't like working here, I still get paid a small amount for food. Being jobless means I have to find a job, or I'll be homeless soon too.

"I understand that this is your only job, but I am planning to close this store soon" I just stood there. A bit speechless.

"O-oh, okay" Lots of thoughts suddenly came. What if I became homeless? What if my parents don't want me anymore? W-what if i-

"I'll give you 800$ for now, I don't want you to starve, of course. For now, go find a new job. I believe you can" He said that with a somewhat calming voice. Then he gave me an envelope.

All my thoughts suddenly disappeared and now, what I want to focus is to find a job, fast.

"Thank you so much sir, but you don't really have to-"

"Consider this a thank you for taking care of this store for a month" He cuts me off.

"Now you can go home, go find a new job" He continued.
