1.A person or thing that is mysterious or difficult to understand
2. A device used by the German military command to encode strategic messages before and during World War II. The strength of the security of the ciphers that were produced by the Enigma machine was a product of large numbers. In total, there were 151 trillion different combinations to break the code, including the fact that it would be changed frequently.
