Chapter one: explosion
Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
*Trigger Warning*

Zayn stepped on the gas as he drove toward the scene of the bombing with Madeline in the passenger seat. He parked behind the firetruck of 51, and both agents climbed out of the vehicle, walking towards the chief.

"We were a few blocks away when we heard the call. What happened?" Madeline asked, standing next to the chief.

"Single explosion, first floor, right in the corner of the building," Boden said, pointing at the building.

"Nails, BBs, any kind of shrapnel?" Zayn asked, looking at the building, then at Boden.

"Not that we found," he replied.

"What time was the explosion exactly?" Madeline questioned.

"Reports peg it at 4:03," Boden said as Madeline looked down at her Apple Watch.

"It was nine minutes ago," she mumbled, then turned to look at Boden. "We need every emergency vehicle headed here stopped outside the perimeter. Evacuate this building."

"I got the team in there, Sanchez checking for structural damage and more going door to door—"

Madeline cut him off. "Then have them grab anyone they can see and get out right now!" she shouted at him.

A distressed woman ran past the officers doing crowd control, and both agents walked over to her.

"Oh my god. My kids are in there!" she cried out, pointing at the building that exploded.

"Ma'am, you can't go in there," Zayn said, blocking her.

"Let me through! My kids, they are in there," she pleaded with the agents, then turned to Madeline. "My boys are in there!"

"We have the fire department bringing everyone out that they can, okay?" Madeline said, holding the woman's arm.

"But I don't see them."

A boy called out behind them. The woman must have recognized the voice and rushed over to the stretcher where the kid was.

"Are you okay?" she asked as Madeline walked over to the mother and son, with Zayn following behind her.

"No, no, no, he's only seven, and he knows not to open the door for anyone," she said as Madeline held her back again.

"Hey, hey! Stay with me right now," Madeline said, looking at her.

"You don't understand. He's my baby," she said, crying.

"I understand. I'm a mother too, and I would be doing the same thing right now. I know every instinct is telling you to go in there, but you need to be there for your other boy right now. Go be with him, alright?" Madeline said, turning her towards her boy who was being loaded up.
