Y/N POV:
I felt like I was floating in a pool of mud. My limbs felt heavy and my throat felt dry. I was locked in a calm void with no idea of what was happening. I tried to pull myself out of the quiet darkness that engulfed me. Everything around me seemed fuzzy and surreal. When I tried to lift my head, I felt a pain that was unlike anything I had ever experienced. The constant beeping of what I thought was a machine made the pain worse, but I couldn't manage to move away from it. I tried to understand what was happening but even the thoughts filling my mind made the pain worsen in my head.
I felt a warm sensation closed around my hand and the collection of drops of moisture on my cheeks. A voice that sounded familiar leaned over me and whispered in my ear, "Please come back to me baby. Please. I love you. I can't do this without you. Please just open your eyes."
I tried once more to open my eyes to see where the voice was coming from but the pain forced me to close them again. The tug of a painless quiet sleep was too much. I allowed the darkness to pull me back in again, letting myself sink into the heaviness without thoughts of what was happening to me.
The next time I opened my eyes, the room was filled with dim light. The pain in my head had diminished to a dull ache. My eyes traveled around the room and I noticed I was in a hospital room. The machines beside my bed were beeping at a steady rate, indicating the levels of my vitals. Although the beeping made the pain in my head worse, it was not as bad as before. I reached up with an aching shoulder to touch my pounding head and felt the bandage that covered the right side of my head. My right arm was enclosed in a cast from the wrist almost to my shoulder. I could feel a harsh pain in my abdomen. I didn't remember what had happened to cause the injuries, but clearly it was severe.
I could feel a warm hand clenched around my hand and looked down to see my fingers intertwined with another hand's longer fingers. My eyes followed the hand to an arm covered in a long sleeve dark grey shirt. The shoulder attached to the arm was broad, the neck corded and strong, and the face handsome. The setting sun swathed the face in light, highlighting his almost perfect features. His nose was straight, his eyebrows were dark, and his pretty lips were tensed even in sleep. His messy dark blond hair fell over his high forehead and looked as though he had been running his hands through it. Although extremely beautiful, the face was not one I recognized. Who was he and where was Cam? Why was Cam not holding my hand? The thought of my boyfriend made me automatically flinch away from the unknown hand.
As I went to pull my hand from his, the grip around my fingers tightened. The eyes that were closed opened slowly, revealing a dark chocolate brown color that I could easily get lost in. They were hazy with sleep, but as soon as he realized I was watching him, the haze cleared and his eyes filled with tears that spilled down his cheeks.
His long fingers clenched around mine and he moved closer to me, reaching out to touch my cheek. "Baby, you're awake. My god, I was so worried about you," he whispered.
I pulled my hand from his and flinched away from his touch, my mind filling with fear of this handsome stranger. I didn't recognize this man and I felt uncomfortable with him touching me. "Who... who are you?" I asked, my head filled with pain and confusion.
Taehyung POV:
My heart broke at the look of fear on her face and the words that spilled from her beautiful lips. "It's me, baby. It's Tae," I said, reaching out for her hand again. Y/N pulled her hand out of my reach.
"I'm sorry," she said softly. "I don't know who you are."
I felt a pain in my chest at her words. The love of my life, my best friend, and my beautiful fiancé did not remember who I was. "My name is Taehyung. We've been together for the last three years. We live in a house with our dog, Yeontan. We're supposed to be... to be getting married," I said, the last words coming out in a whisper.
Y/N shook her head in denial. "Again, I'm sorry but I don't remember any of this." She looked around the room. "Where are my parents?" she asked, her voice tense with panic.
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "Your parents moved to Spain last year. I called them and they're trying to get a flight out, but it's taking time," I explained.
At my words, Y/N leaned her head back against the pillow. "I don't understand. What happened?" she asked.
I reached out for her again, but moved back and sat down in the chair next to her bed. "We had just gotten engaged. We were on our way home from the beach and... and a car blew the red light and slammed into the passenger side of the car," I said quietly.
"Were you hurt?" Y/N asked, a touch of worry in her voice.
I pointed to the cast on my right wrist. "Just a broken wrist. Since the car hit on your side, you were hurt worse," I replied, tears filling my eyes again.
Y/N nodded in understanding. She shifted in the bed and winced in pain. I wanted to reach out and comfort her, but I couldn't bear the pain of her pulling away again. "I'll get the nurse to get something for your pain. We can talk more after you rest some," I said gently.
"Okay. That sounds like it would be fine," she said. "Thank you."
I stepped out of the room and grabbed the first nurse that walked past me. "My fiancé..." I stopped myself. "The patient in that room is in pain."
The nurse smiled at me. "I'll bring her something for the pain," she said.
I walked back into the room. Y/N was staring out the window, but directed her gaze back to me when I came in. I hovered by the door, hesitant to walk further in.
"How long have I been here?" she asked, a slight frown on her pretty face.
I ran a hand through my already messy hair. "Just about 10 days," I replied.
I could see the tightness in her jaw. "Have... have you been here the whole time?"
I nodded. "Yeah, pretty much," I replied. "Jimin and Jungkook brought me a bag with some clothes and the rest of the guys have been taking turns bringing in food."
Y/N cocked her head in confusion. "Jimin and Jungkook? Who are they?" she asked.
My heart dropped at her question. "They are... well... they were your friends," I said, the sadness evident in my voice. "I introduced you to the guys right after we met. You and Jimin hit it off immediately and have been best friends ever since."
"I really don't remember them. I'm sorry," she said. I shrugged, not sure what to say. "Has Cam been in yet?"
My heart broke at the mention of her ex-boyfriend. They had broken up six months before we met. "Cam? Your ex?"
Y/N's eyes widened in shock. "My ex? No you must be mistaken. He's my boyfriend," she said, shaking her head. The monitor next to her bed started beeping at a quicker rate, indicating that her heart rate had picked up.
"No baby. You broke up more than 4 years ago," I said gently.
Y/N shook her head again. "No you're wrong. And don't call me that. Where's Cam? I need him here," she said, her voice filling with panic.
The nurse I had grabbed came in the room with a syringe in hand. She put a hand on Y/N's arm. "Calm down sweetie. I'm going to give you something to help you sleep," she said gently.
Y/N nodded her head and turned to look at me then turned back to the nurse as she administered the medication into her IV. "Please find my boyfriend. I need him here. Please!" she pleaded. Y/N's eyes came back to me. "Please leave."
"Baby please," I started, but Y/N cut me off.
"Don't call me that. Leave. I don't know who you are. Please leave," she said, her eyes filled with tears.
I turned to the nurse for help, but she shook her head. "I'm sorry but for now its best to do what she asks. We need her calm," she said softly to me.
I wanted to protest, but I couldn't. I stepped to the side of the bed and picked up my bag from the floor. I reached a hand out to Y/N, but she flinched and I pulled away quickly. I turned to give her one last look, but she refused to meet my gaze. I had to get out of here.
