Time ticked on as the days slowly passed. Narita began to meet new people and even made friends with Tanaka and Ennoshita who had invited him over for a hearty meal. Of course, after declining the first time, the bald male felt the urge to go to make up for him.
The couple's relationship was sweet yet chaotic, making the olive eyes male feel at home. Now returning to his empty and cold house made Narita feel... alone in a way.
"Meow"
The soft call of the dusty Persian awoke the male out of his thoughts as it pawed at the empty plate of ham.
"Fine, give me a minute"
Over the days that had passed, the feline and the human had formed some sort of invisible bond, tying them together. It was strange how fast they grew attached to each other. While only a week had passed through the small village, for the pair it had felt like years, bonding over something as small as watching the fire crackle together.
One thing that struck Narita as strange was the cat's behaviour. After many attempts to pet its soft-looking fur, hand feed it or any attempts to get near it, Aki would skitter away, seemingly afraid of any human contact.
Narita had thought about taking it to a vet to see if anything was wrong, yet the legend he had heard from Tanaka replayed in his mind, making the bald male doubt that something was wrong with the cat.
"Hmmm it's getting late, let me set the fire then I'll get your food"
Striding over to the ash-filled fireplace, a small smile spread across the olive eyed male while he carefully placed the kindling in. After throwing a small match onto the wood, Narita made his way back to the kitchen where Aki was sitting on the bench, tail flicking back and forth in an almost hypnotising way.
"Nyaaaaa"
The feline's call echoed throughout the house slowly losing patience. Elegantly jumping down from the counter and onto the tiled floor, Aki immediately went over to its bowl and started gulping down the food, as if it had been starved for years.
A small smile played across Narita's face watching his small friend greedily gulp up its food. Knowing that Aki was happy and content gave the bald male a strange feeling that stirred in his chest. It was warm and fluffy, giving him a sense of delight.
Breaking out of his trance, Narita couldn't help but feel the overwhelming urge to pet the feline. Its soft fur looked so inviting and calming... maybe he could...
Slowly reaching out a hand, the olive-eyed male watched as Aki finished the last few bites. His hand was so close... so close to the dusty blonde fur...
There was almost nothing separating the cat and the human skin when Narita stopped in his tracks. Would Aki want this? The feline had always seemed scared of the human touch, it wouldn't be right to jump on it.
Looking down at the slender body of the Persian, the human couldn't help but notice it's tensed up body like it was awaiting something that wouldn't come. A gentle smile played on Narita's face as the feline turned, its black eyes meeting his olive ones.
The body of Aki seemed to freeze for a second as it scanned over the human, seeing what he was about to do. In the brief moment of time, they both just stared into each other's eyes, predicting their next move.
A surprised look came across Narita's face as he watched the Persian walk up to his outstretched hand, making light contact with it. The human couldn't help but gasp, its fur was fluffier than he expected, almost like he was floating on a cloud.
Then he saw it. The red ribbon around Aki's neck... shining in the dim firelight was a key, tied to the crimson ribbon. Moving slowly so as not to scare the cat, Narita moved his hand down, making sure to not lose contact with the feline.
The cold metal played against the human's skin, sending shivers up his spine. Remaining in contact with the cats cloud-like fur, the olive eyes male slowly unravelled the red ribbon, letting it drop off the Persians neck.
Now in his hands was a cold and heavy key... this had to be the legend, what else would this be? Maybe it was a fluke? Surely he couldn't be the one to gain the heart of this so-called Kinoshita? Right...?
Returning his attention back to Aki, Narita's eyes scanned the room to where it was now pawing at the door like it wanted to leave the house. A soft smile came across the human's face as he opened the door for his cat.
As he was about to shut the door and call it a day, a mewling sound snapped him back to reality. Aki was walking in circles outside, mewling like a siren. Maybe it wanted Narita to come with him?
Following his gut feeling, the bald male outside, watching as Aki headed off down the moonlit road.
"Aki wait"
