You pushed open a classroom door only to see a child's dead body and a curse smiling sinisterly. Your throat turned dry and your eyes widened at the gruesome sight.
The child was missing a few limbs mainly their left arm and some fingers on their right hand, as their lower body was mangled their intestines spilling out onto the floor.
You've seen gruesome things, you were a sorcerer after all- but this wasn't something that you ever wished to see.
The curse suddenly lept at you throwing you against the wall, catching you off guard.
These weren't low-level curses...!
You fell to the floor coughing up blood feeling your body ache horribly from the impact. You got up as fast as you could, dodging the curse's swift attacks.
Although you made a katana out of the shadows aiming it at its head- its neck was thick and flowed of cursed energy. You let out a scoff, as you pushed forward trying to lodge it in one swift movement.
With both hands you grasped at the handle of the katana pulling it out of its throat before swinging it forward, finally cutting off the head in one motion.
Blood spouted out of its neck as the curse's body fell to the ground, with a loud thud that echoed off the walls.
You walked back into the classroom where the dead body lay. The smell was putrid, almost haunting.
Maybe If you were faster then the child would still be alive.
Tears clung onto your lashes, the child couldn't have been over six years old.
Megumi walked down the hall looking for you only to hear soft cries, coming from the classroom. He pushed open the door, the smell of death filling his senses before his gaze landed on you.
"(Name)..." Megumi's words trailed off once he saw the gruesome sight in front of him.
You looked up from the body your gaze landing on Megumi's.
Never had he seen you cry, even if it was just a few tears that stained the sides of your face.
Your heart ached, he knew it did, he could see every thought and emotion flash through your mind.
He walked over to you unsure of what to say or do towards you, but wanted to comfort you- hold you, tell you everything would be alright.
"Megumi..." you opened your mouth, words being lost in your throat, "I couldn't, I didn't-"
Megumi took your hand into his, the feeling of his skin against yours was soft and kind. You couldn't remember what it was like to be this close with him, a part of you missed this.
"Come on (Name), we need to get you back to the infirmary," Megumi said softly as you continued to let out your emotions.
"But what about the-"
"The others will deal with the body. Nobara and Ichiji are waiting for us."
All you did was nod at Megumi's words allowing him to lead you to the front of the school.
-
You could hear everything. The sound of the rain hitting the trees. The sound of the wind blowing through the plants. Everything felt louder than usual. The cold sheets rubbed against your skin making you shiver slightly.
All you wanted to do was sleep.
You pulled yourself up from your bed and made your way towards Megumi's room.
He would understand what you're feeling he has been doing this sorcerer thing for a while, so you hoped he'd understand why you felt so guilt-ridden.
Megumi slowly opened the door rubbing his tired eyes. "Hello?"
"Megumi..." you uttered under your breath, his name felt so natural coming out of your mouth, "I can't sleep..."
"Is it because..."
"Yeah..." you whispered cutting Megumi off.
He let a small sigh as you walked into his room laying on his bed letting the sheets brush against your skin.
"Don't you ever feel helpless?" your words quiet and soft, a stark contrast to its usual tone.
Megumi sat on the floor leaning his head back against the wall, "Yeah, I feel like everyone has felt helpless at one point in their life."
"I feel like I..." you felt your throat turn dry as you tried to explain your complicated feelings. "I feel like it's all my fault...if I was just faster then, the child would still be alive..."
"You're a jujutsu sorcerer, not a hero," Megumi said solemnly.
You turned your head towards Megumi who was staring at his hands looking deep in thought. With a small smile forming on your face, you sat up from Megumi's bed and walked towards where he was sitting.
You rested your head against his shoulder letting yourself get lost in this strange comfort he gave you, "Have you always been this wise?"
The moonlight shined through the curtains lighting up the room slightly. Some of the moonlight landed on Megumi's face highlighting all of his breathtaking features.
His lashes fluttered, and his jaw tightened ever so slightly.
"(Name) can I ask you something?"
"Yeah...what is it?" you said gazing at Megumi with curiosity laced in your voice.
