Aurora Hendrix had always been sure that she had the power to get her life back together, even after the worst battles destiny had in store for her. Unfortunately, though, her ambition just wasn't enough to get her through everything.
Most nights were tough. She laid there, staring at absolutely nothing, overwhelmed by the things she wished wouldn't constantly haunt her. Sometimes, all she wanted was to take all the things she felt and crumple them up, like a meaningless piece of paper (and maybe throw them into the fire, afterwards).
She wanted to let it all out. But where would she even begin? How much she missed her family? The fact that she would give up her own life just so they could get to live theirs? How she wished she hadn't run away from the people she loved? The anger that had built up inside of her?
The life she had chosen to live compelled her to do things she never would've thought herself capable of doing. What sixteen year old would even think that, ten years later, she would be chopping heads off and chanting exorcisms for a living? Definitely not Aurora.
In everyone's memory, she would always be the sweet girl who only wanted to do good, who had dreams of being part of something big. But life had undeniably changed her, as she had gotten a quite vivid picture of how ugly one's world could truly get.
Now, all she was left with was a burning desire to avenge what and who she had lost. A desperate need to cast away all the hatred she had met with - even though she knew nothing could ever go back to the way it was.
Forced to surrender to her deepest fears, there was one thing only she had yet to come to terms with. She could no longer deny that the darkness she had always refused to acknowledge, had in reality always been part of her.
