Maddy laid in the back of the van bawling her eyes out. She was really scared and missed her parents. She wished she could be with them right now. She tried to think of a way to escape but she felt like she couldn't do anything. Suddenly, there was a tap on her shoulder and a pack of candy was thrown to her. She looked at it and there was a note. It read:
Here you go.
Hope this helps!
~Z. S.
Maddy didn't understand who this was so she took the candy and hid it in her pockets. The van got very bumpy for they were on a rocky road. Maddy looked outside. It was pretty dark and spooky. She realized it wasn't New Mushroomton but some place evil. Pitch black was all she could see then the van came to a screeching halt. Maddy bumped her head pretty hard and blacked out. She woke up and was unaware of where she was. It smelled like smoke and fire. She could hear screams and cackles coming from all directions. Suddenly, she saw a big hand come to grab her. She tried to run but it felt like she was going nowhere. Just then, a heroic voice was heard and ice, forcefields, and magic were blasting all over the place. She could make out it was her parents and family friends. "Mommy? Daddy? Uncle Ian?" Maddy called out but they were still fighting something. Then she saw a boy about her age give his hand out to her. "Trust me!" he called out to Maddy. Then she saw her father fall to the ground crying out in pain. She wanted to save him but the boy took her hand anyway. "Daddy!!!" Maddy called out.

Maddy woke up suddenly and realized she had a bad dream. It all felt real though. She got up and realized she was out of the van. She ran and felt the walls. She realized she was in some sort of jail cell with hard rock. It was dark so she couldn't see that much. "Help! Mommy! Daddy! Uncle Ian! Auntie Violet!" Maddy called and called but nobody heard her. She tried again. Nothing. She was all alone. She cried and cried. Suddenly, she heard a voice. "Hello?" Maddy sniffled. She looked around. "Who's there?" She heard what sounded like sobs and crying combined. She looked around and she saw someone or something crying in the corner of the cell. It was a joey. Maddy crawled up to him. The joey got startled and jumped back. "Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you," Maddy told the frightened joey. "How do I know you're not one of them?" the joey nervously cautioned. "What do you mean? Where are we?" Maddy asked the frightened joey. "I don't know except some bad guys threw us in here. I'm scared. I want my momma," the joey cried and hopped over to Maddy, cuddling next to her. Maddy pat the joey on the head and hugged him back. The joey was shaking. "You're cold," the joey said to Maddy. Maddy sighed, "I get that a lot." She saw a blanket by the cell entrance. It had another note that read:

Hope this keep you and your friend warm.
~Z.S.

It was the same initials that Maddy saw when she got the candy. She was curious to know who this stranger was that was helping her. Maddy grabbed the blanket and put in on the joey to keep him warm. "Thank you, what's your name?" the joey asked Maddy. "I'm Maddy, what about you?" Maddy asked the little joey. "I'm Roo," said the joey. "Well Roo, I hope we get out soon," Maddy said hugging her new friend. "Me too," Roo said.
