shifting uncomfortably due to my attire, i awoke from a sleep i didn't recall. my heart quickened, as i realized i had been laying on someone as i felt their bones rather annoyingly poking my side. my eyes shot open quickly and i turned my back facing the person instinctively, gripping the sword's scabbard behind me.

"ah, you've finally awoken. i've been sitting on the floor for a while now, you looked too peaceful to awake." my heartbeat only quickened as i heard the mature woman's voice prickle the room's silence. looking around, i only saw wood and a dim light from a shitty looking lantern.

i was about to ask where i was, until the sudden rocking of the room interrupted me. i inhaled a sharp breath cursing to myself for not being keen of my surroundings as my head un-hazed, reminding myself i was on a ship to paradis.

had i gotten drunk, or was i knocked out?

quickly, my memory got back to me as i sighed. my horse was safe, i had taken it safely in the boat. i bit down on my lip as i realized my mission and stood up quickly, the woman's eyes silently followed.

"um, sorry was i drunk?" i painfully awkwardly asked, for whatever reason. the woman let out a low chuckle as she got up that slightly made me nervous. she smiled as she shook her head, my eyes widened as i realized how tall she was.

"yeah, you were. you were slurring your words about your mission by the way." i groaned, not even wanting to feel shocked at my actions in the moment. i still had a blaring headache i was ignoring. "so, are you going to kill me?" i asked, staring straight up at the woman.

she shook her head lightly once more and trailed her slim fingers along my jaw, i couldn't help but realize how inferior i was in the moment to her– and although, i was one to hate feeling in a vulnerable position i didn't seem to mind.

she suddenly cupped the side of my face and i unintentionally leaned into her touch slightly. had i been so touch starved, i definitely wouldn't do that. not to a complete stranger.

the tension was thick as we were both staring into each other's eyes. "and your name?" she questioned, tilting her head and raising a brow (quite attractively, i might say).

i swallowed the words i nearly said, nervously as i didn't know what to say. "lillith." i managed to break out, "lillith, dostoevsky."

i didn't want to keep my honorary name. i was finally free from marley's cheap shackles, why would i not abandon my old identity?

the woman hummed, "so you're the militaries 'humanities strongest soldier', huh?" i instantly scowled at the mention of my reputational name, averting my eyes. she took that as a yes and chuckled again at my visual displeasure of the title.

"you know of me?" i avoided her gaze and i glanced down at the space between us on the floor. she softly sighed through her nose, "of course i do, you're marley's most exceptional and successful sniper in all of it's history. you've even gained the name 'lady crimson' from peers and some superiors. you're our fate for humanity as they say, a gem in the marley military." she crossed her arms, leaning back on the ship wall.

i scrunched my nose again at the mention, i never really knew why all sniper's were all nicknamed like that. "why haven't you mentioned of my status?" i asked, regarding my royalty of course. maybe it was due to everyone other than the warriors, nagging me about royalty and being rich if i had started to converse to them. the people saw me as some token or human currency.

she hummed once again, closing her eyes gently. "i don't see how you're any different from me." she obviously stated, "i couldn't care for royalty and it seems like you're not too fond of your own identity in marley. i believe they're all scum." her tone darkened on her last last words and i couldn't help but wonder about who she was, she had to have been important.

"what's the reason for your resentment towards marley." i couldn't help but question as i met back with the tall woman's gaze. "what's there not to resent? it's a shit-show itself." she joked.

i straightened my posture and struck at a realization, "ah, i didn't quite catch your name." i said, cautiously.

"yelena." i stiffened at the words, realizing who the woman before me was. so she's the leader of the anti-marleyan group? it wasn't like i was going to kill her, i had other plans, though i couldn't help but think about how big of a target she had on her back.

"are you aware of how large of a target you have on your back, yelena?" my words had came out more worriedly sounding than i anticipated, the woman's face grew with confusion as soon as i said that.

"how the hell are the nobles aware of my plans?" she stated warily, a look of pure disbelief laid on her face. i shrugged, "i don't know, genuinely. i was told suspicions and rumors were flying around about this. though it isn't to public knowing yet, only superiors have been questioning it."

she let out a sigh of relief, running her hands through her short hair. i couldn't help but notice how attractive her hands looked. they were dainty, although not short. quite the opposite frankly, slim and long although they did look royal. god, i hated monarchy but there wasn't anything else to describe her appearance.

why the hell am i thinking about her hands, what the fuck. i deadpanned for a second before picking the conversation back up, "it was my mission to assassinate all anti-marleyan soldiers and all affiliates." i suddenly said. tension arose again, it was her turn to stiffen.

"and i'm assuming you aren't following your father and the militaries command, yes?" she raised a brow once again in question. for a person who'd just found out the person in from of them was meant to assassinate them and all their comrades, she was relatively calm. did she trust me, or was she just not scared?

"counteracting, huh?" she smirked.

"i have other plans that i will successfully execute, ill make sure of it."
