Chapter 19: Last

Sa totoo lang ay wala talaga akong alam sa mga nangyari nang araw na 'yon. I just woke up feeling thirsty and with no recollection of what happened. The doctor said it's normal not to remember anything because I just undergone from a major surgery.

It took me a day before I recalled what happened. At pinagtakhan ko na lang kung bakit ang tanging nabungaran ay si Uncle Victor. My sisters are nowhere to be found. Avoc's not around too which if I wasn't hallucinating at my almost last moment of my life, he was holding me and begging me to stay with him. He's the last person I saw before oblivion took me.

Nasaan na siya? Ang mga kapatid ko? Ang lahat? Bakit si Uncle lang ang narito?

It continued when the loyal assasins of the Heimdals raised a rebellion againts the Cruises and most specifically to my sisters, including me. It was what pushed Uncle Victor to decide. With all the responsibilities that suddenly fell to his shoulders because my sisters are both shock of what happened to me, Uncle took over.

Due to severe pain from the gunshot, I had a cardiac arrest the reason why I lost consciousness. They tried to resuscitate me through incorporating CPR and defibrillation but it was no avail. My vital signs failed to return and I was declared dead on arrival. Hindi na umabot sa hospital.

Pain, guilt and grief consumed me after I heard it. Hindi ako makapaniwala sa nangyari. I was almost dead - no, no. I did. I died. Paano iyon tinanggap nila Verona at Aleera? I'm sure they brokedown. How about Avoc? Ang sabi ni uncle ay hindi raw makausap ng maayos ang lalaki na ayaw bumitaw sa katawan ko kahit noong nasa ambulansya na. Uncle doesn't know him but he later on realized that he's an ex lover of mine. Hindi naman daw umiyak o nagwala pero iyon daw ang mas ikinabahala ng mga pinsan nito.

According to Uncle Victor, it was Avoc who was with me in the ambulance the whole time. He got hysterical as he demanded the medical team to revive me after they declared my time of death. With no heartbeats, pulse, no breathing and brain activity, I was clinically dead for straight hour.

I call it miracle but the medical world has a term for what happened to me. Because minutes after we reach the hospital and I was already declared dead, my pulse came back and the doctors noticed cardiac activity.

They call it the Lazarus syndrome, a delayed return of spontaneous circulation after performing CPR. I didn't understand what does it mean but for me, it was a miracle.

Si Uncle ang unang nakaalam sa kalagayan ko dahil ang mga kapatid ko ay huli na nang nakasunod sa hospital nang sundan sila ng tauhan ng mga Heimdal at nagkagulo.

"While your boyfriend, he stayed rooted inside the ambulance when the team took your body inside the hospital for another resuscitation due to my own desperate requests. I remember that I tried to talk to him to ask him if he's okay but the guy was too stunned to even blink. I don't think he can even hear me or anyone who's trying to talk to him."

My chest hurt at that thought. Avoc losing his mind because of my death doesn't sound appealing. I know somehow it should pull a string to me because that only means he still cares but I can't find myself to feel a bit lighter about that. Thinking that he's in terrible pain to the point that it immobilize him, kind of emotionally kills me, too.

"Then you got revived, your pulse and your heartbeat came back. I was the first and the only one who knew about it."

Tulala ako habang pinapakinggan ang mga sinasabi ni uncle. I couldn't believe it. Hindi ako makapaniwala na nangyayari pala iyon sa totoong buhay at sa akin pa talaga. What does it mean?
