15 - year old Lee Min-a is just a shy, music-loving girl that keeps to herself. Just a normal teenage girl with a dream and a determination to achieve it living in Seoul, Korea. The Lee family constantly struggle to make ends meet, and there are stretches of time where they must live paycheck to paycheck in their small, run down home in their struggling neighborhood on the outer rim of the city. Min-a works after school and on weekends along with her older sister and younger brother at her father's bookshop. During these boring shifts, Min-a often daydreams about her far-fetched goal: to become a K-pop idol. Her parents, however, think Min-a's dreams are nothing but the delusions of teenagers, but Min-a has a secret. She practices dancing and singing in secret, in preparation to audition for the K-pop company Hybe without telling her parents.
On the flip side if the spectrum is Lee Min-a's polar opposite, 15 - year old Sana Nakamura, the rich, spoiled rotten, and popular daughter of extremely wealthy and successful Japanese businessman Rin Nakamura. Sana lives in a wealthy part of Tokyo, Japan with her father, mother, an older brother to keep up appearances, but behind closed doors, Sana's family is a wreck. A short tempered father and an alcoholic mother make Sana feel like she can only trust her older brother, who she cares for deeply, because despite her popularity at school, she is afraid of getting close to people. All her life, people had told her she could be a K-pop idol. Sana has the voice, and the looks for sure. but she had always taken people's remarks with a grain of salt, until Sana realized.. If she was a trainee, she could leave. She would never have to go back to that house again. Yes. Sana would audition to become a K-pop idol for Hybe.
