There he was. The man that had torn out Franny's heart five years prior. His jet black hair illuminated by the candlelight and his dark eyes looked intimidating as ever. He was handsome, there was no doubt. But Franny knew what lay underneath the pristine, marble like exterior.
Observing him like this, Franny questioned how she ever loved him. Sure he was handsome, but he was always serious, he didn't dance at balls, he only snaked about the room to make contacts and network.
She was at a loss, really. The contrast between them left her wondering how she ever could have wanted him so desperately.

There she was. The woman that had rejected him just five years ago. Her red head set even more aflame under the chandelier and her pale blue eyes looked as alight as ever. She was a frazzled, messy thing. Sure, she was beautiful, but it was a wild kind of beauty that while once enticing, seemed now too dangerous.
Observing her like this, with her head thrown back in a deep laugh, he could see why he once thought he loved her. She represented what he was never allowed to be. She offered a sort of freedom that he was too scared to take for himself.
However, as one grows up, they must account for responsibility, and if loving Franny was anything, it was the opposite of responsible.
