"From the sky, my point of view is shifted. my mindset is changed. The laws of science are blurred. It all softens behind the window of a plane." On October 13, 1943, Italy declared war on Nazi Germany, thus changing the course of its history forever. As the war surges around them, Mandy lives in the heart of Rome with her family, her father teaching the careful practice of crop dusting. Flying the plane is her freedom and her escape until the Allied forces invade, tearing apart the world she once knew. As bomb raids, food shortages, and mistrust attempts to shatter the hope of the living, Mandy is thrust into an era gripped by loss and destruction. Alone and afraid, she must find the strength within her to survive and overcome, as well as allowing herself to be softened by the love that may be the hardest, yet the only, thing left to give.
