Having recently joined the army as an officer in the 2nd Warwickshire regiment, second lieutenant Harold Pilcher has been sent to South Africa, the forefront of combat in the British Empire. After being sent to the camp of Isandlwana in the Natal region, he is sent on a scouting mission with a small number of native soldiers. As he returns to the camp he is confronted with it's destruction. He is filled with a deep hatred for the Zulus and is filled with a burning urge for revenge. However there is little time for revenge ,for he is set with the task of getting both himself and his men back to safety. This will entail trekking for hundreds of miles trough Zulu controlled territory constantly under the threat of both the enemy and each other. Only then will he be able to gain vengeance on the Zulus.
