Seventeen-year-old Ella Westmore is an average high school student. She has above-average grades, a few select friends, and a crush on a decent guy. Though that last one, she'll never admit. When her junior class goes on their annual field trip to the South Pacific nation of Fiji, Ella is beyond excited. She gets to go away from her family for a couple of weeks, spend time with her friends, and maybe snatch some bootlegged booze. Another reason she's excited is that she's an aspiring meteorologist and the conditions are ripe for a small cyclone to run through the islands. Of course, its supposed to be weak and do next to nothing. But being able to track and experience a cyclone will make her stand out on her resume! Except when this cyclone suddenly begins exploding in strength, Ella realizes that the entire country of Fiji is in the path of a record-breaking storm... one that repeatedly sets records. One that will change her entire life and the life of her classmates. As Cyclone Osai bears down on the islands, there is nothing Ella can do. Thousands of miles from home, is there any hope for her? Will she survive? Or will she become merely a statistic?
