Chapter Forty

Clary's POV

It's been a few months since we've had Sky and I'm just about ready to pop. I'm nine months pregnant now, so I can go into labor at any time.

Sky is really excited for baby Ryder to come into the world. We moved into our new house and it is way more space than we need, but it's a great house for us and the kids.

Jace has been very attentive to me lately, because he wants to be here when I go into labor.

Sky has completely adapted to being part of our family and loves to play with Lily.

Sky's birthday is tomorrow and we're letting her plan it, so I'm taking her to the store to pick out the decorations.

I'm 99.9% sure that everything will be pink, but if that's what she wants, then that's what she'll get. She told me a few weeks ago that she'd never had a birthday party before, so I wanted to make sure this one would be everything she wanted in a birthday party.

We were about to leave the house, but Izzy walking in the front doors of my house stopped me. "Clary! I've got big news! Simon would be here too, but he got called into work." I smiled at her before looking down at Sky.

"Go watch TV in your room for a few minutes, okay? Aunt Izzy and I have grown up things to talk about." She nodded and ran upstairs. "Okay, what's the big news?" I asked, excited to hear about it.

"Okay, well first, we're engaged!" She squealed and showed me the huge rock on her finger.

"Oh my god! Congratulations, Iz! Wait, what's the second part?"

"I'm pregnant!" I squealed and hugged her tightly.

"Congratulations, Izzy! I'm so happy for you guys!" A gasp escaped my lips as I felt the water pouring down my legs. "Oh, shit."

"Did your water just break?"

"Yep. Fuck, I was supposed to take Sky shopping for her birthday party tomorrow."

"We'll figure it out later. I'm gonna call Jace, get you some new pants, and we'll head to the hospital." I looked down at Lily, who was standing up in her playpen.

"Well, damn, Lily. I ruined Sky's party." She just giggled. "Of course, you think that's funny."

Izzy came downstairs with a pair of sweats and Sky.

"Alright, change into these pants and we'll head to the hospital. Jace is gonna meet us there." I changed into the pants and we headed out. Izzy secured the kids in the back seat and then drove us to the hospital.

A nurse took me to a hospital room and had me change into a gown before telling me to get in bed. I didn't protest. I was too tired.

"Baby!" Jace ran in, instantly grabbing ahold of my hand. "How are you? Are you okay? Is the baby okay? What about-"

I laughed and cut him off. "Baby and I are fine, Jace. We're doing just fine. Stop worrying so much."

He sighed. "I can't help it. I wasn't here for this last time. I was one of the people sitting in the waiting room. I-I just don't know how to do this."

"It's going to be okay, Jace. This isn't my first go around. I'll help you, if you need it. But, I really only need you to be here and occasionally play butler and get me things." He laughed at that and gave me a kiss.

"I love you so much, Clary."

"I love you too, Jace."

Alec and Magnus walked in and smiled at us. "We're here to get the kids." They were playing with Izzy in the small seating section in the corner of the room. "We'll have mom call us when you're almost done and bring the kids back to see their new baby brother." Magnus spoke, giving me a hug and a kiss on the cheek before letting Alec do the same.
