"Come on then, let's go see Nana." I smiled as I pulled up on my mums driveway.
I somehow managed to get both the girls out of the car and carry them up to the front door, knocking on it awkwardly before mum came out with a huge grin on her face as she saw the twins.
"Look how big they are!" Mum smiled as she took Soph's car seat off me, allowing me to walk into the house.
"I know, time's flying." I chuckled, putting Ava's car seat in the hallway before unclipping her belt.
"Tell me about it, is Lucy not with you?" Mum frowned as I lifted Ava out of her seat whilst she tended to Soph.
"No it's her first day back, she left about fifteen minutes ago." I told her as we carried the girls into the living room.
"At least she's had a nice break."
"Yeah she needed it, she completely overworked herself last year." I tutted, sitting down on the sofa with Ava on my knee.
"This is her first time leaving the twins isn't it?" Mum asked, not taking her eyes off Soph whilst she snoozed away in her arms.
"Yeah. She was nearly in tears this morning, she really didn't want to go," I chuckled as Ava stared up at me as she heard my voice. "Hey gorgeous."
"I was the same, I never wanted to go back to work once I had you."
"I'm dreading going back to work, I don't want to leave them." I sighed, stroking Ava's cheek with my forefinger.
"You won't be saying that in a few years, you'll be begging to get out the door," Mum laughed as I rolled my eyes at her. "Sophia's getting antsy, has she not long been fed?"
"She should be fine, just stick Peppa Pig on and she'll soon settle."
I got up and got the girls' bouncers that we kept at my mums house and placed them on the rug in the living room before me and my mum strapped the two of them, content watching repeats of Peppa Pig. Mum took me into the kitchen whilst she made us both a drink, I stood in the doorway so I could keep an eye on the twins.
"So how's everything going with you lot then? I've hardly seen you since they were born." Mum said as she flicked the switch on the kettle.
"It's good, I'm loving every minute of it. It's just-"
"Just what?"
"Me and Luce, it's like we're drifting apart." I sighed as Mum put milk in both of the mugs.
"Drifting apart? You two? Seriously?"
"Yeah, we hardly speak any more and by the time we've sorted the girls out and attempted to clean the house up a little bit we're both spent and end up flat out in bed." I told Mum as she passed me a mug and we headed back into the living room where Sophia and Ava were happy as anything just staring at the TV.
"Unfortunately that's what happens when you have kids, it happens for the first couple of months or so but you get past it."
"You fancy telling me when it's gonna pass?" I laughed gently before placing my cup on the floor.
"I can't tell you that, but what I can tell you is that I'll have the twins every Saturday night and you two can just have the whole night together."
"What? No, Mum-"
"Ast it's fine, it's not like it's a chore, I'd love to look after them."
"A-Are you sure?"
"Absolutely, you two need some proper time together." Mum smiled before I jumped up and went over to the other sofa before pulling her into a hug.
"Thanks Mum." I mumbled into her shoulder as she rubbed my back.
"Anytime darling."
I soon sat back down and continued to chat to my mum all the while drinking our tea and watching the babies. It felt so good to have a catch up with my mum after so long, like it was back to reality.
"Yep, no, someone's definitely hungry." I chuckled after trying to settle Ava down for a few minutes, realising it wasn't going to happen unless she was fed.
"I'll do the bottle up for you." Mum offered before rooting through Ava's bag and digging out her bottle, taking it through to the kitchen as my phone rang.
I stood up with Ava in my arms and managed to get my phone out of my pocket to see a number that hasn't been saved in my phone. Why was a random number calling me? I frowned as I answered the call and pressed my phone to my ear.
"Hello?..Yeah this is he..What?..No seriously..Sure I'll be right there..Okay..Thanks, bye."
"Who was that?" Mum asked as she came back into the living room.
"The er, the hospital." I frowned, offering Ava over to her.
"The hospital? What's wrong? Ast are you-"
"I'm fine, Luce had an accident and she's just gone down to surgery."
