Liz Gillies-surprise

I got home from deployment and Liz was still at work with our son Travis. It was his birthday and he still thought I was away so did Liz. I had wrapped Travis' gift and started making dinner for them for when they got home when I heard the door open.

"Mommy, look." I heard Travis say.

"What is it?" Liz asked. "Look it has your name on it."

"Hey Travis, happy 6th birthday. Sorry I can't be home with you and mommy. Here's your presents. I hope you enjoy. I love you and your mommy so much I'll call you tonight love mommy." Liz read. I heard her struggling to lift the box.

"Need some help with that?" I asked.

"Mommy." Travis said jumping on me.

"Happy birthday Trav." I said kissing his cheek.

"I missed you Mommy." Travis said.

"I missed you too. Both of you so much." I said.

"I think Mommy needs some hugs and kisses." Travis said getting down.

"What's that smell?" Liz asked.

"Smells like bolognese and spaghetti." Travis said. I smiled.

"I was making dinner for us all." I said wrapping my arms around her waist.

"You made my favourite?" Travis asked.

"I tried I can't promise it's gonna be as good as Mommy's though." I said.

"Oh Shh. You're as good a cook as I am." Liz said kissing me. We pulled apart.

"Let's get this box in there." I said picking it up and carrying it into the main room. I went to check on the food while he was opening it.

"I really missed you." Liz said. "I didn't know when you were coming home."

"I love my job but god I hate that I have to go away for months at a time." I said.

"How long are you home for this time?" Liz asked.

"1 or 2." I said.

"1 or 2 days? Weeks? Months?" Liz asked.

"1 or 2 years. I'm on reserve. So I'm thinking about asking the forces to put me through my masters in Engineering cause I've been told they would when I was ready." I said.

"So you're home with us for 1 or 2 years?" Liz asked with a smile.

"Yeah unless I get sent to work but they'll only put me out to fight if they're desperate. It's usually like cover a base or fly to a place to support the American Embassy. I've also been told they're paying for us to go away for 2 weeks all inclusive. Me, you and Travis. How do you feel about Mykonos?" I asked.

"You're joking?" Liz asked.

"No I'm serious. They said just call em up with a date and they sort it all." I said.

"Our anniversary is coming up this year so what about then for our 5th anniversary we lay on a beach in Mykonos." Liz said.

"Wouldn't wanna spend it any other way." I said.
