Standing straight and tall Erwin stood in front of all the 104th trainees, Erwin will give a speech and hopefully he can convince some people to join the Survey Corps for the upcoming expedition
"Today, you choose which division to join. The reason I'm up here is to invite you to become a part of the Survey Corps."
Viewing from the sides the Levi squad including Eren are listening and watching Erwin in hopes of a encouraging message
"But I should warn you in the recent titan attack. Everyone here experienced what the average excursion outside is like. I'm sure nothing else in your lives came close to it through you're trainees, you've experienced sacrifice."
"As a result I'm sure you came to know...your own limits and terror of the titans" I looked around at the trainees, most were sweating and nervous the others had bored straight faces
"Nevertheless, while it's true we suffered heavy looses in this attack the human race has advanced towards victory like never before. By now everyone is aware of...the existence of Eren Jeager."
"Through his actions and yours the titan incursion has halted and we have obtained a path to understanding the true nature of titans."
"I'm not at liberty to tell you much here regarding Eren but believe me, he's proven himself as an ally who's willing to lay his life on the line."
"And we also know that in the basement of his old house in Shiganshina District there are answers about the titans that even he doesn't have."
Everyone quietly gasped and mumbled something and other looked around to see if lies were being told, so far Erwin's speech has been going good
"If we can just get to that basement I believe we'll find clues that may free us from a century of domination by the titans."
"What basement?" I heard someone say I looked back and saw a buff blonde haired guy he was tall and seemed like a strong soldier
"Are we already that close?" A guy asked
"If we're on the verge of finding out what the titans really are, then the situation must not be that bad" The guys friend said and lots of other started murmuring things
"And yet..." Erwin started speaking again "if we are to perform a full investigation of that basement room in Shiganshina we first need to take back Wall Maria"
"In other words our aim is the same but now that we can no longer use the gate in Trost District, we have no choice but to take the long way around, from Eastern Karanes District the path that took one of our battalion four years to clear a completely lost."
"During those four years 90% of the Survey Corps soldiers died. That's 90% in four years."
"Even in the best case, sending another battalion to wall Maria would mean five times the casualties and 20 years of work. Those aren't realistic figures."
"The Survey Corps is always looking for talented people since many are killed every time we go out, we suffer from a chronic shortage of personnel..."
"I won't hide it. Those of you who join the Survey Corps will participate in the expedition beyond the walls one month from now. A supply routine needs to be put in place as soon as possible"
"I believe the mortality rate for new recruits going on their first journey outside is about 50% but those who get through it go on to become superior soldiers with high survival rate. Now you know the dismal state of affairs those of you who are still willing to put your lives on the line. Remain here."
Everyone stopped and stood still.
"Let me reiterate the majority of the people who stay here and enter the Survey Corps will likely die."
I sighed and mentally face palmed Really Erwin you just ruined it, now everyone will walk away
"Ask yourselves if you really have it in you to sacrifice your life for humanity."
"That's all. Those of you who wish to join other divisions are dismissed."
From behind me I could hear people walking away but only a couple until more then half of everyone started walking away
"Damnit Erwin you scared them shitless now barely of them are going to stay." I said to myself
After everyone that decided to leave and join another branch left, Erwin began talking again "If you were told to die, could you do it?"
Silence.
"I don't want to die!"
"I see..." Erwin softly smiled "Everyone you look good. Very well! I welcome the newest members of the Survey Corps! This is my real salute! Devote your hearts to the cause!"
Everyone saluted "Yes sir!"
"I see 21 members in the 104th Survey Corps who have given the salute." Erwin said looking down at the brave, scared shitless soldiers
"You have withstood your fear well...you're brave soldiers. You have my respect." ——— 1 month later Kranes District
Levi positioned at the front of the squad, me and Eren right behind him, Petra behind me and Olou behind Eren, lastly Eld and Gunter at the very back
"This is it! Now the human race takes another step forwards!! Show me what you e learned!! Open the gate!! Launch the 57th expedition outside the wall!! Advance!!"
We all kicked our horses and ran out of the gate "Hey Petra" I called out to her as the support squad killed off titan threatening to enter our formation
"Yes second in command?" She looked at me "If we make it out alive I'll let you be the flower girl to me and Levi's wedding."
Levi glanced at me from the corner of his eye "I haven't even purposed yet." He said "Well if your not then I am." I said back
"W-Well yes of course I'd love to be flower girl!" Petra smiled "Tch don't forget about us." Olou spat "Oh? Two flower girls then?" I teased
