Narrator's pov

-

Age is nothing if you're not evolved yet some people manage to search high and low, deep into your soul to pull your last nerve

Ember groaned to herself as she slumped her back into the plastic back chair of the room. Her professor had been rambling about something below as he stood at his podium and chuckled into the microphone

The board had been filled with formulas she had memorized since she was ten. College was her only escape from her parents, it was a waste for her but she needed anything to occupy her time so that they wouldn't place her as head of the board for the Atkins hospital

She was sure they would see through her little scheme but then again, it was possible that they allowed her to go to college because she needed certification of her skills

Perhaps they were waiting patiently for her years there to end and they would snatch her up like a vulture and place her little ass-

Assests.

On the board, they might as well give her a share of the company

The girl's fingers toyed with the salmon coloured eraser between her thumb, rolling the tip around as she zoned out at the board

Most would think she was paying attention to the class but in reality, Ember's mind was far from advanced algebra

Two girls were running through her mind and she had no idea what to do with herself

Ember raised a brow as she realized something. Bringing her hand down, she slipped it into her coat pocket and felt a piece of paper within it

It was the barrister's number from a few days ago that she never looked back at

It had been a simple week since that little incident or whatever you called it happen

Personally, I'd say it was a perfect plot to a reality show but that's just my opinion

A small smile came onto the girl's lips as she recalled the short moment she spent with the short hair girl just outside of her favorite coffee shop

She smelled exactly like the hot chocolate she was accustomed to drinking with a small touch of cinnamon and pepper mint flaring her nostrils

Then there was another that brought out everything inside her, even emotions she never thought she'd feel

The girl pulled her phone from her pocket and held it with one hand while the paper rested between her fingertips

What would it mean if she texted her? It was obvious that the short hair girl wanted something more than just friends

But Ember wasn't sure if she wanted to light a match just as yet with the girl

Because there was a girl on her mind that she couldn't shake off

Gabrielle's smile was her joy, the way her lips curled upwards and a bright pink stain always marked her cheek. The way her eyes were full of light and glossy, almost like the smooth river on a morning walk where the sunrise met its reflection, turning simple green into a warm and golden hue

That girl was her light but she was also her darkness. The one that made her crumble inside and with each falling piece, she lost a bit of herself

A toxic feeling that Ember knew all too well. Here she found herself back in a situation she tried so hard to get out of yet she fell back in the loop

"Fuck it" the girl muttered under her breath

Her thumb quickly tapped in the girl's number into her phone
