Narrator's pov

-

"I should be the one apologizing" Gabrielle chuckled

Ember's eyes immediately left hers as they dipped down to her hands

"Henry invoked himself so much with my parents, told them that we're together and everything and like they always do, they believed him ofcourse. He was always perfect in their eyes. A man who had a bright future while I looked like a broken guitar string to them. He was a man and I was apparently a rebel, so ofcourse they loved that he could be the one to 'set me right' and break away from these 'rebellions' when in reality I just want to live my life the way I chose. But they'll never get that" Gabrielle mumbled

By now her eyes were consumed with a coat of gloss, the liquid threatened to run off the corner of her eyelids and travel down her cheek

"They're the type of parents that see their children as property and not people" she said

Ember felt a shard pierce right into her chest by the girl's words. Never had she ever heard such a relatable and true statement. It's something she's also struggled with in her life

She guessed it was something she and Gabrielle both had in common. Sharing the same trauma

If that ain't goals then I don't know what is

"Come here" Ember mumbled, reaching her hands out

The blonde was then pulled forward into Ember's chest, her cheek immediately pressed flat on the girl's body while arms wrapped around her back. Ember's hug was stronger than anything she had ever known, as if holding her was the only way to show how sorry she was for everything Gabrielle was going through

In that moment of feeling Ember so close, Gabrielle was awake somehow, more alive than she had been in so very long

Protected, that's what she felt. There was an energy to the hug, as if the matter of one powered up the other

Ember's chin rested on top of the girl's head as her finger stroked through them, Gabrielle sat in the girl's lap with her arms wrapped around her body

It was the second most intimate position they've ever found themselves in, but this wasn't sex

It was a connection that many tried so hard to find in this bland, tasteless world

Gabrielle exhaled into the girl's chest, her shoulders sinking into the comfortable embrace

In the heat of the lovers hug, there were welding sparks

"It's funny isn't it?" Gabrielle mumbled

"What's funny?" she asked

"That I'm the one that fucked up yet here you are holding me in your arms"

Ember went silent for a few seconds, it hadn't crossed her mind until now of what was happening. Her heart simply called to do the right thing and react in the moment

It was clear that Gabrielle was having a hard time, a guy that was being persistent and pushing himself back into her life no matter how much she refused and parents who finally found her again, now pushing her over to live up to their expectations. Whatever happened between them didn't seem to matter, but what did matter was the fragile girl in her arms that needed comforting

And if she was being honest, she really wanted to feel the girl's body on hers again

"I really am sorry Ember"

Forgiveness, it was hard to forgive people in Ember's life. Especially those who continued to fuck her over and over again

But explanations were given, an understanding was brought in. Hell, she seemed to forget everything else when she was around Gabrielle again
