spin me around,
tell me the tale one more of
how you'd fallen
into my arms.
engulf me in arms that
promised my freedom
from the
castle of painful solitude and
dragons that breathe the
fires of heartache.
pick up my skirts and
remind me not of the
multitudes of
trolls,
ruffians, and
monsters
that we passed
in your journey
to rescue me,
but of the vast,
bottomless ocean
that lined your eyes,
soothing my anguished soul
as we rode across
the bittersweet sunset
of yonder, and
planted a garden of hope full of
paper butterflies in my bosom, serenading me with
symphonies of the love
you declared for me
and promises
of a rose-coloured future.

together.
you told me we'd fight
through the
relentless demons that
plague my past,
present,
and future.
you whispered of
the tomorrows we
would spend,
me nestled into the haven
named you,
you standing stronger
than the conflated
strength of a
thousand titans.

together.
you told me
of the cold, unwavering
currents of loneliness
we would break
free of,
as if it were as easy as
ripping off a blanket
to reveal a shivering being
that craved the warmth
that only other beings
can emit, and how you
and i would suppress
each others' cries
of help with a hurricane
of honeyed pledges
and the luring
incentive of a human siren's
dulcet calls.

i watched my castle of sanity burn for such promises,

why do they go unfulfilled now?
