"flashback" Dream POV

The door opened slowly. The sound of the hinges slightly squeaking was soon followed by the distinctive heavy footsteps of my abuser. I felt a presence perch on the edge of my bed, the scent of liquor lacing every exhale he took. I kept my eyes closed in hopes he would just leave, but that was not the case.

"It was your fault-" he began, his deep voice echoing through my room, "it's your fault she died. You just wanted to go to the beach that day, you just wanted to go swimming." he spat as his voiced raised a pitch.

He grabbed my arm in his tight grasp and dragged me out of my bed, throwing me on the floor. "what the fuck?" I groaned as I hit the floor, "it's all your fault!" he hissed as he kicked me in my side narrowly avoiding my ribcage. "AHH!" I cried out as he kicked me over and over again, "you may be a pure-blood witch but you're not special!" he retorted as he backed out the room, leaving me clutching my side.

Normal POV

I woke up drenched in sweat and clutching my side like I was doing in my nightmare. I looked over to my clock, it was half past seven so I decided to get up and take a hot shower to try and clear my head, but all I could think of was that one day. The one that changed my life.

I remembered that day all too well. I just turned eleven and got accepted into Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, to celebrate I wanted to go to a small bay just north of a small village called Hollywell. Its sand was golden and warm to the touch, the sound of the gentle waves lapping on the shore sent a calming feeling through my body as we set up towels and a large red umbrella on the empty beach. I ran straight into the crystal water and started to float on my back, looking up at the clear blue sky. I laid there with closed eyes floating for what must have been thirty minutes until the heavens opened up and a storm rolled in. It came unexpectedly and with no warning.

I went to put my feet on the sand below me, but as I went to stand, I sank under the water and began to panic. I pushed my body above the now choppy surface, the waves trying to push me back down to the depths below. I heard my mother screaming for me from the bay, "I'M COMING! TRY AND SWIM TOWARDS MY VOICE!" she cried. I tried to do as she said, to swim towards her, but the current was too strong.

As another wave plunged my head under the water, I felt a pair of arms grab my torso and drag me to the raging ocean's surface. "it's okay my love, mummy here." she spoke in a calming voice even though we were both in unforgiving waters. With her help I started to swim towards the beach, unknowingly to me her arms were no longer around me to help me swim.

I approached the beach and my step-father ran into the sea to help me out as the waves were much calmer and I was exhausted. "where is she!" he yelled as he laid me on the now cold and wet sand. "she helped me swim back. She should be right here with us." I said frantically looking around the bay, that's when I saw it. A body. It was laying down in the sand as the waves crashed over them. My step-father noticed my line of sight and began running straight to the body.

As he approached the lifeless figure, he dropped to his knees. It was her. That was all I remembered that day. What I chose to remember. I didn't want to remember walking up to them. Hearing his sobs, seeing her still body lying in the sand, her dull eyes staring into nothingness.

I heard a knock at my bedroom door and turned the shower off, "hold on!" I yelled through the bathroom door. I quickly wrapped a towel around my body, opened the bathroom door and walked into my bedroom. I noticed a tall figure standing beside my bed looking directly at me, "what the fuck Draco! Get out!" I yelled at the blonde but he just stood there frozen. His mouth slightly ajar and a slight blush crept upon his cheeks, "err-" was all he managed to get out as he looked my body up and down before I stormed up to him, one hand clasping my towel and one pushing him towards the door. "Get...out...now!" I said pushing him at each word, "maybe another time then?" he chuckled as I slammed the door behind him.

I dried myself off and got changed into my school uniform. I walked out my room into the common room and didn't see Pansy so I thought that she must already be in the great hall for breakfast.

I walked into the great hall and was immediately greeted by Hermione waving me over to sit with her and the boys. "So, a Slytherin eh?" Ron said hesitantly, "well, isn't it obvious Ron! She is a descent of merlin. Who was also sorted into Slytherin!" Hermione replied. "My mum and biological dad was also sorted into Slytherin." I said with a sorrow filled smile, "you seem sad when you mention them. What happened? If you don't mind me asking." the brown eyed girl asked, "oh no, it's fine. My mum died when I was eleven and my dad died before I was born." I sighed.

Hermione placed a hand on my back and gave me a remorseful look. I smiled at her kind gesture and she smiled back removing her hand from my back, back to her spoon which was in a bowl of cereal.

"You gonna eat then y/n?" Harry asked as he pointed to all the food that was on the table. "oh yeah, I best eat something before my first class." I said as I grabbed a small handful of strawberries from a nearby dish and placed them on a plate in front of me. "Strawberries? For breakfast? You're joking right?" the ginger boy said as he laughed at my meal choice, "hey, I like them. Leave me be." I giggled back at his comment. "oh, what's your first lesson today anyway?" Hermione asked as she finished her cereal, "it's defence against the dark arts, why?" I mumbled as I ate my last strawberry. "That's our first class too. You should walk with us so you don't get lost." Harry insisted, "Thanks. I was worried I would end up in the wrong room." I said, relieved that I wouldn't get lost on the first day.

As we stood to leave the great hall, I saw Ron look past me and spoke in a low voice "I don't think someone likes you hanging out with us." he nodded his head in the direction he was looking. We all turned and saw Draco Malfoy staring daggers at me and the trio, but his gaze was more focused on me. I turned around and started walking towards the door. "Come on guys, we don't wanna be late." I stated and I heard a small hum come from Hermione as they skipped to catch up to me.
