A SMILE DANCED
across your lips as langa skated around the park, careful to avoid the passing people - small children watched him with admiration in their large eyes, sparkles dancing in them as they pointed and awed.
it was such a wholesome sight.
he occasionally waved back at them, sometimes offering them a small smile. reki had gone off to get ice cream since he was absolutely convinced that he had heard the familiar tune of the treat-filled van, and was determined on finding it.
that left you alone with langa, your other close friend. psh, a close friend. who are you kidding?
you wished you could tell him how you really felt.
for the longest time, you had had a crush on the blue-haired skater boy, wanting nothing more than to just kiss his coral tinted lips and tell him how you felt.
but you knew he didn't feel the same.
the only reason he was around you was because of reki, meaning if it weren't for him, the two of you would've never become friends. he didn't return your feelings, and you had to put on a fake grin, pretending like it didn't absolutely crush you on the inside every time he flashed you one of his rare smiles.
no one else knew, not even reki himself. you could never tell anyone. it would destroy your relationship with him, and he'd probably never speak to you again. and that was what scared you the most.
so you sucked up the pain, eyes following your oblivious friend as he picked up speed; but he still made sure to linger around you, not straying too far from your line of sight.
you glanced down at your phone for a split second, briefly checking your social media before an ear-splitting crash sounded in front of you.
your eyes darted up, meeting langa's mangled body, who had lost focus and skated directly into a tree.
tucking your phone away, you sprinted towards him, calling out his name as you ran.
"langa!" you crouched beside him, watching closely as he pushed himself off the floor and leaned against the tree. "langa, are you okay?"
he groaned in response, motioning down to his hands. he had grazed both of his palms, blood staining his skin. you winced, and without thinking, gently took both of his wrists into your hands.
