your boyfriend's eyebrow hadn't gone by you unnoticed when the male in front of you sent yet another flirty comment your way.
you stood with your hands in front of you, nervously fiddling with your fingers as the male droned on - about what, you weren't exactly sure.
reki watched from beside you, pretending to adjust the wheels on his skateboard so that he could eavesdrop.
he wasn't doing it to be intrusive; he just knew that you tended to be uncomfortable in these kind of situations and wanted to remind you that he was there to protect you if need be.
a sweet gesture, really.
"your number?" the guy suddenly asked, taking out his phone from his back pocket and extending it out to you.
"huh?"
in all honesty, during most of the conversation, you had been zoned out, not bothering to listen to a word the man had to say. "your number, can i have it?" he asked, gesturing towards the idle phone in his hand.
nervously, you glanced at your boyfriend in the corner of your eye, who's look of concern grew at your anxious demeanor.
"uhm, i'm okay thanks. sorry," you declined, shaking your head at the boy who's eyebrows deepened slightly. "what? come on, it'll only take two seconds," he pushed.
both annoyance and anxiety sprouted within your chest as you spoke, "no. i'm okay, really."
"don't be such a tease, babe. just put in your number and i'll leave you al-"
a new weight on your shoulder startled you until you glanced at the owner of said arm recognized the face of your beloved boyfriend. "hey, only i get to call her that."
his voice brought a new sense of comfort within you, igniting a fire underneath your heart every time your heard it. he looked over at you, his amber hues filled with reassurance. you couldn't help but let the corners of your mouth raise slightly in relief.
with his arm now slung protectively around your shoulder, reki glared at the man in front of you, eyes narrowed. "there a problem?"
the male raised one eyebrow, trying to appear disgusted. "this your boyfriend or something?"
"yeah. i am. and it's pretty obvious that you're making my girlfriend uncomfortable, so i'd appreciate it if you could back off a little," he warned, stroking the side of your shoulder.
the stranger scoffed, placing his phone in his back pocket. "whatever, she could do better." and with that, he made his long-awaited exit.
you rolled your eyes at the comment, turning to reki with a grateful smile. "he's lying, i really couldn't," you told him. reki tried his best to return your happy look, but he couldn't help the feeling of jealously that coursed through his veins.
"you're just too dang cute," he joked, pinching your cheek as you giggled.
"thanks for that by the way," you laughed, "you're like my knight in... an oversized hoodie," you humored, looking down fondly at the cutely-decorated sweater he wore, knowing you would steal it later that day. reki chuckled at your comment, arm still wrapped around your waist.
taking notice of his disheartened look, you turned your body towards him, placing a hand on his cheek. "hey," you beckoned, "there's no one else in this world i'd rather be with."
the boy looked up at you, suddenly feeling much happier as he looked into your loving eyes. "yeah, me too."
