Senseless Act

Prompt: It was totally senseless act.

Kaden stared at the destruction spread around the dimly lit room that had once been a cozy, secure nest selected by his Omega. Charra had carefully selected and scented every blanket, pillow, and rug before she allowed it to enter her sacred space. She had outright stolen pieces of his own clothing to add to her creation. Positively feral whenever he'd crossed the threshold without an invitation, his Omega created a perfect den to prepare for her next heat and their pups.

The nest that now lay in shambles around the room.

Neatly tucked blankets now lay heaped in piles against the walls. The comforting neutral colors his Omega preferred now marked with garish stripes of red, blue, and yellow paint. The fat, fluffy pillows deflated by gashes made with some kind of sharp instrument. Feathers from the pillows still floated in the air, revealing that the destruction was fairly recent.

The formidable Alpha, who ruled his territory with an iron fist, felt his breath catch in his chest at the senseless destruction in front of him. Invading his fortress and seeking him out made sense to Kaden, and as the Alpha Warlord, he even expected it. But this targeted his Omega. His Charra had found her way into the darkness that surrounded him, and she filled his days with love and laughter and his nights with a burning passion.

No one would harm his Charra. His mate. No one.

Inhaling deeply, he searched for any scent left behind. His sweet, biddable Omega had turned into an unfamiliar creature while building her nest, but her fierceness helped narrow the available scents. She'd refused to let anyone into her nest until she deemed it complete, so after he pushed aside the delectable scent of his female, the burning, acrid scent of jealousy filled his lungs.

Growling in recognition, he turned at the sound of familiar soft footsteps on the stone floor. Facing his little female, as she entered the hallway, he spared a glance for the cream blanket in her arms before moving to block her view of the destroyed room.

"Kaden?" Her voice held a question as she took in his protective stance and the open doorway behind him.

Used to handling battle-scarred soldiers and not hormonal Omegas, Kaden made his first mistake, "It can all be fixed, Omega."

His second mistake - forgetting that for a small, delicate female, his mate was incredibly fast.

"Fixed?" she cried as she darted under his reaching his hands and into the room. Her cry as she took in the destroyed nest pierced his heart like no steel weapon ever forged.

He caught her in his arms as he sank to his knees behind her. Scooping her into the cradle of his arms, he pressed her face into his chest. Her sobs shook her entire body, and his tunic grew damp beneath her head.

After what seemed like an eternity, Charra raised her tear-filled gaze to his, "Why?" she whispered.

Before he could answer her, Charra's head snapped back towards the room, and he watched her nose rise into the air and her chest fill with the same scent he'd discovered earlier. Her eyes widened, first in recognition and then in fury.

Kaden tightened his arms around her, but she twisted and rolled out of his hold and onto her feet.

"I'll kill her." she snarled before hopping over his legs and escaping out of the room.

Kaden lept to his feet and made it to the hallway in time to see his mate slip down the stairwell that led to the guest quarter housing her visiting family. Ever the tactician, Kaden followed at a much slower pace.

While he wouldn't hesitate to stand in front of any warrior, assassin, or creature that would dare to attack his mate, he had no desire to rush to this battle. Getting between two sisters - one an Omega nearing her heat with a destroyed nest and the other a jealous Beta who dreamed of being an Omega - was not something he'd planned on doing today.

A screech followed by curses that widened even his eyes made him take a deep breath before wading into the fray.
