It's 6 pm, the sun is still heavily beating down on my bare back as we go 90 mps on some road in the badlands. I hum a tune that I can't even hear over the sound of the motor or the wind, and close my eyes.
Februari 14th was the day me and Jackie ironically met doing what any other merc would be doing on Valentines day: ignore it and kill some punks.
Rogue had set it up, for fun, just to see if anything would bloom. In a way she did make something bloom that day, it's been 5 years since then and me and Jackster still work perfectly together, that and I completely lost my head over him. But I'd never admit it, it would be unprofessional, and also a job suicide, no more gigs with Jackie who even through the insane feelings I had for him, also became my very best friend.
This day was spent no different than the other Valentines we spent, working on some job and then we eat out so Jackie can fake propose to me for free desert. I loved every part of this strange ritual, some parts more than others for, several reasons.
'C'mon V! We're here!'
I'm pulled out of my thoughts by Jackie who taps on my head.
'Oh we're here, sorry I was lost in thought.'
'Yeah I noticed chica, Let's go!'
I look at the place where this mysterious gig that Jackie has shared barely anything about has to take place.
'A bar?'
'Are you coming or not?'
'What are we doing here?'
'Just... stealin' something.'
Before I can ask anything else he starts walking towards the entrance with big steps.
'Okay then.'
I follow behind and take in the place, it looks rather chic, kind of high class.
'Reservation for Welles, please.'
'2 People sir?'
'You got it, cabróna.'
'This way, please.'
The waitress leads us to a more secluded spot with pretty lights and cute decoration.
'Woah! This place is beautiful!'
'Isn't it? Gotta treat ourselves from time to time.'
'So, what are we stealing, Jackster?'
'Slow yourself! Enjoy yourself, let's eat something first.'
'Fine, have it your way.'
We order some freshly prepared meals for a ridiculous price, it arrives neatly 20 minutes later and looks like we payed entirely way too much for the food we received.
'You know, I do not understand the hype with these high end food places, I much rather prefer the local diners.'
'Noted, next year we'll go to a more local spot.'
'You making plans for next year already? That's not very Jackie.'
'Eh, I guess i'm trying new things.'
'Can I ask now, what're we stealing Jackie?'
'You really wanna know what I have in mind?'
'YES!!'
'Well, to be honest, I was planning on stealing your heart...'
'What?'
I almost choke on my water, it takes me a minute to recover from what he just said, but then I face palm and take a deep breath
'You? My heart? Jackie? I- I dunno what to say...'
'If you refuse that's fine, I just felt like I needed to shoot my shot on our 5 years anniversary.'
'No Jackie, I feel the same way! It's just so unexpected!'
'However, I feel like tonight hasn't been quite completely fullfilled...'
'Oh Jackie don't you dare.'
Then he pulls out the wedding ring, a cheap one with a fake little rhinestone in the middle, I'm pretty sure he found it in a bathroom. I take a deep breath and lift my hands to my face.
'fuck it- OH MY GOODNESS! HUNNY I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!'
The waitress immediatly hurries over and starts clapping. In between my laugh / crying act I throw Jackie little signs with my eyes that you could translate as: I will get you back for pranking these poor waitresses with this old act.
1 hour later
'Well, I gotta say, that was one of the better free desserts I've had, but your performance was much better than usual, something happen?'
He nudges me in my arm.
'Shut up you dumbass.'
He laughs and picks me up by my waist and twirls me around, it feels absolutely amazing.
'I've been wanting to do that for a while now, chica.'
