July 4th

Hours go by, the bullet is out and I'm patched up. Only family is allowed in first, so Mother, Father and Isaac come in.

Mother - You're an idiot, risking your life for that boy, who wouldn't do the same for you.

Dad - Angela!

Isaac - Mom, what if Laura died, would you say the same thing?

Mother - Yes, she would've saved a boy who's just gonna move on with a different chick.

Laura - Mom, get, the fuck, out.

Mother - How dare you, you can't do that.

Laura - I will call security

Mother walks out mad.

Dad - Oh sweetie are you ok?

Laura - Yes dad. I had to save him, it said in the heart. I'd rather risk my life then lose someone I love.

Isaac - Do you know who did it?

Laura - I'm thinking one of the Blossoms. Jason is out but Mr. & Mrs Blossom or Cheryl may have done it.

Dad - Do you want to see your friends or rest?

Laura - My friends, can Jason come in last though?

Dad nods and gets Jughead, Betty, Veronica and Archie walk in.

Jughead - I did it Laura, I called them as soon as you hugged him.

Laura - Thank you Jug, you're my hero.

Betty - How did you know Jason was gonna get shot?

Laura - It's a private secret. A secret not for here. When I'm out of here, come to my house. Jug has the address.

Veronica - You're so strong. What did your mother say?

Laura - That I saved someone that wouldn't do the same for me and that I'm an idiot for doing so.

Archie - Mother's shouldn't do that.

Laura - She's not even my mother. She's my step mother, My real mother passed away when I was born. I used to believe she was my real mother, but as I got older I found out she wasn't, but we were still close. I'm going to start calling her Angela and not Mother.

Betty - Why would you call her mother if she's not your mother?

Jughead - She just said she got close with her, she was the only mother figure in her life from a young age.

Laura - Bingo.

Everyone laughs, it hurts to laugh, so I stop.

Archie - Jason is waiting. I've never seen him so worried, we told him to get home and change.

Laura - Thank you guys, don't hesitate to visit.

They nod and hug me gently and wave goodbye. Jason practically runs in.

Jason - Laura, I'm so sorry.

Laura - What are you sorry for?

Jason - What happened. It was probably Cheryl. Oh I'm going to kill her.

Laura - Jason... Stay here, with me, we can deal with it later. I need you right now.

I pat next to me, he comes over and lays next to me. I rest my head on his shoulder.

Laura - I had to save you.

Jason - No you didn't.

Laura - That bullet would've hit you in the heart.

Jason - But you said....

Laura - I lied about the death timer. When I wasn't with you it said a long time, but when I was your timer said today. I didn't want that. Mine did too but I knew how to fix that. And if I told you, you would've tried to change your day.

Jason - Your my hero

Laura - No your mine, if you didn't call for an ambulance while rowing to land and applying pressure to the wound, I probably wouldn't be here.

Jason - We are each other's hero.

I smile and fall asleep in his arms. The nurse comes in and gives me lunch.

Laura - This is my 4th of July lunch?

Nurse - This is all you can eat.

Jason - She's not eating that on our first of July together. Laura, I'll go to Pop's and get a good meal.

Laura - I love you Jason.

He kisses my forehead and leaves the room. My dad walks in and Jason not far after.

Dad - I see Jason was about to go. Happy 4th of July honey.

Laura - Happy 4th of July dad.

Dad - I got you a present, maybe 3.

I'm confused, my birthday is tomorrow. The nurse and my dad help me walk to the car.

Laura - Am I going home?

Dad - Yes. But that's not the gift.
