Buildup (Part 1: The weird side)

Alright, I have been gone for so long and yes, I know Wattpad has made so many changes since then, and being your very own judgemental ass Asian Sistah' I wish to discuss them while including opinions no one asked for. But lemme first get back to my old grind and then do that... like damn, I haven't visited Wattpad for a hot minute now.

Now, what is a buildup and why am I addressing this? Well, this topic of build-up has two parts. In part 1, AKA this chappie, I will discuss the weird side of it.

In itself, buildup means to develop gradually by increment. Such as a person's mental instability may be built up by small unfortunate events or major tragedies. Now, that isn't the case with everyone, but in that person's scenario, those events led to his mental instability.

I personally admire buildup as it links stuff together and actually makes the writing seem more synchronized with the events and everything makes more sense than just coming off as random. similarly, it can be used to show the reasoning behind actions and even act as a justification behind some actions that might not be as good.

Ah, yeah... I know... thus, read these two examples. One with some buildup(2) and one without it(1).

Example 1: Xavier Bdboyson slammed Blue pineapple against the locker and grinned, "Hello there, kitten," he purred, his minty breath beating against the bare flesh of her neck as his hands roamed across the curve of her waist.

Example 2: [Insert certain bits in previous chapters about Blue pineapple simping on Xavier and daydreaming about having him.] As her back slammed against the cold metal of the locker, she momentarily lost her breath at the sensation of his hot breath against her neck as the number of butterflies in her stomach multiplied by the second. Her legs were growing weak due to the nervousness and she was growing uncertain about whether she wanted it or not. But given her predicament, she had a minimal choice as the male continued to explore her with hands she wished to hold for the last 3 fucking chapters smh.

Yep, a very typical bad boy example but I think you guys can make a fair comparison here. For example, the first one just comes off as disgusting and how the girl should kick him in the batteries. But in the second one, perhaps some might assume that 'Ohh, she wanted it since the last 3 chappies and now she got him. Yay! Now they can do flippity flappity and give birth to crotch goblins and increase the world's population!!' But here you are ignoring how either way, the guy is being a creep and in both examples, the same thing is happening but the 2nd one has enough buildup to excuse his assault.

I see this in plenty of Wattpad books where borderline sexual harassment and rape is excused on the basis of 'Oh she wanted it,' without explicitly addressing whether she consented to it or was too intimidated by the situation to consent. This also applies to stories with submissive males and dominant females.

Then there is also this thing that their bodies start reacting in certain ways like shivering, unintentional moans and ... umm... rivers start flowing and ostriches putting their heads up in the air. I read somewhere, correct me if I am wrong, that it is just the body preparing itself for flippity flappity or growing hormonal. It doesn't mean that the person themself is consenting to it since the body has this automatic mechanism and it's not like once you say yes your body will start getting hot and bothered. But it also doesn't mean that a person has a right to put their hands on you just cuz your body is growing horny.

I find it weird that many authors use this sort of buildup to excuse acts that can be considered as serious cases of harassment. But welp, that's Wattpad.
