Chapter 18:

She was alone her whole life, not until the two girls showed up and became her bestfriends. She never knew that two people can bring so much happiness to her life. Before meeting them, she was lonely. She was miserable and she needed company. She suffered for a long time, in the comfort of her own home, with her parents almost making her insane.

Gray was lost.

She never knew what the meaning of her life was, nor knew what her purpose is. She just existed there, not really living. Having to be emotionally abused by your parents isn't really fun, and to say that it lasted for almost 14 years, you can imagine how hard it was.

Her parents worked hard to be rich, yes. They gave everything Gray wished for, except for parental love.

Just like any emotionally unstable person, Gray hid her struggles to everyone. Behind her smiles, her laughs, her loud cheery voice, her cresent eye smile, she had her facade and only Astrid and Rina saw the wall she built to cope, to hide, to-

"Run,"

She heard Astrid say as she took big steps through the forest. Gray didn't know what was going on in the moment, but she followed anyways, holding Hayoon securely in her arms.

Once she saw the hideous creature run towards them, she understood what Astrid was trying to do. Gritting her teeth, she gave all her strength to her legs, running as fast as she can. She had to make sure that Hayoon gets there safe.

Since she's the smallest out of the three, she had a hard time catching up with her friends. Their steps are far more faster and quicker than hers.

"Hayoon, please hold on baby. You might be getting dizzy," she chuckled breathlessly. "I'm going to protect you from them, ugly ass bitches."

She glanced at one particular zombie catching up to her. Her heart started to beat faster than it has before. This zombie is quite fast. Why are they so fast? Please trip on a rock or something, I don't want to die. She widened her eyes when she saw another one approaching her at the back. Oh my gosh, am I that attractive? This boy probably did sprinting as a sport. What the fuck?

The first zombie launched itself to Gray, jumping with its whole might, ready to rip her apart, but she luckily dodged it, swiftly stepping back to avoid getting eaten.

There was a second zombie behind her.

"Fuck," she cussed, kicking the zombie at her back and composing herself. Hayoon was on the verge of crying and she noticed this, so she hushed him quietly, not noticing the supposedly stinging wound on her arm. "We're close, Hayoon. Don't worry."

She continued running, the adrenaline in her veins prevented her from feeling anything but the harsh wind making contact with her face, slapping her unintentionally.

As they made it to the cabin, Gray immediately checked on Hayoon. She lifted his arms up, checked his torso, his hands. He's safe.

She's not.

Gray felt dizzy when they'd stopped running, but she thought it was just her regular sickness so she shrugged it off.

Her vision is getting more and more cloudier as seconds pass. Her head spun around. She wanted to puke at the moment but it wasn't the right time seeing that there was heavy tension between Jisung and Donghyuck.

Oh gosh, I might just drop Hayoon on the floor if this doesn't stop. She felt herself become more dizzy and for the safety of the little boy on her arms, she asked Rina to carry him instead. She took the bags on Rina's back in exchange.

Nausea. That's all she felt. For her, everything was so much more sensitive. Her senses are going haywire, crazy and chaotic.

That's when she felt the bite.

She hesitantly looked at her right forearm, feeling a dreaded weight in her heart. When..? She lifted the ripped fabric up. Oh no. Purple, green, and blue veins filled her eyes. She couldn't believe that this happened. When did it even happen?

As she asked the question, a flashback came into her mind. The second zombie behind her.

She quickly pulled down the hem of her hoodie down, afraid that someone would see it. She breathed out heavily, not knowing what to do.

She's afraid. She knows she's going to turn to a zombie. She can't do anything about it. And as realization sunk into her, she hated herself even more when she remembered what Astrid experienced.

I'm turning to her worst fear.

It took all her willpower not to cry and just breakdown at the moment. The blood in her veins carrying the virus was spreading, she knew because she felt it. She felt everything. She felt disgusting.

When she looked up, Chenle was already staring at her. She shook her head, afraid of what he can do knowing that he held a confusing amount of hatred for them that they didn't know the reason to.

He just glanced away, hiding himself from the others.

At this point Gray was already hyperventilating. She can't get enough oxygen through her lungs, and her body was shaking. Though she didn't show that she was struggling, her body seemed to have given up and collapsed.

She couldn't process what was going on. Her eyes saw pitch black and her body turned numb. She could hear everything, the screams, the chaos,

Astrid.

She wanted to cry to her, she wanted to hug her and tell that she'll be going away, but she can't. Her body was laying, frozen like a lake in the middle of winter. What she experienced was scary. She couldn't move, she couldn't see, she could only hear.

Death. Is that what I'm experiencing right now? It isn't so bad as I thought.

The voices faded in her ears and she could also feel herself lose consciousness. Her body heated up, yet her heart beat slowed down.

It slowed down, decelerating as if a vehicle arrived at its final stop.

Her life ended.

It ended without purpose, without a reason. It ended the worst way it can possibly end.

With that in her mind, she let out her last breath.
