Yeah this hurt/comfort has a lot of emphasis on the hurt (though there's plenty of comfort too, I'm just gonna hurt him a lot... really badly... oops). Usually when portraying tics in my writing I stay away from the stereotypical "ticking swears/slurs," partially because the stereotype and partly because I personally don't really tic words, but in this case it's actually relevant to the plot. Nonetheless, ticking swears is not as common as media will have you believe, and if someone tics a slur it is NOT because they say/think it often. I, the author, am a part of each of the minorities that can reclaim the slurs in this oneshot, and so is Denki (though once again, even if they weren't they can't help it and aren't at fault). Lastly, Denki is nonbinary but only out to the Bakusquad, the rest of the class aren't misgendering them on purpose, they don't know, and the Bakusquad only misgenders them because they asked them to in public. I think that's enough of a disclaimer, let's-a go.All of 1-A sat around the common room in a loose circle, solemn quiet hanging heavily. They were all aware a serious and hard conversation was to follow, and they didn't want to force Aizawa-sensei to mediate; they were heroes in training and high school students, they could lead their own discussion.
To no one's surprise, Iida led the conversation. "Following the actions and expulsion of Mineta, it is within our best interest to talk about what has happened, what will happen in the future, and other serious topics that may be weighing us down as people. To start us off, I'd like to apologize deeply for not taking more action against him and keeping you all feeling safe."
"You have no need to apologize, Iida," Yaomomo spoke up. "We know everyone did their best to keep actions such as the incident last weekend from happening, and none of us gi- pardon me, none of us blame you."
On the Bakusquad couch, Eijirou and Hanta smiled a bit at the vice president's connection, being the only out and proud trans kids in the class the recognition for how they were treated (Eijirou getting harrassed just as often as the girls were while Hanta, being AMAB, mostly was threatened and demeaned), but Denki just began squirming. They had woken up that morning more anxious than normal, even before the meeting was called, and it had only gotten worse as the day went on. They tried to hide their discomfort, but a click of their tongue betrayed them, at least to those closest to them. Their boyfriend and best friends shot them worried looks, but they shrugged it off.
"Don't feel the need to walk on eggshells around us, either," Uraraka was cut off with a thud as Denki jolted the sofa they were on, but she just continued, "like Yaomomo said, it's not anyone's fault, and we don't think that any of you will do anything even close to that. Let's just bask in not having to watch our every move again!"
Aoyama muttered lightly in French, bringing Satou's attention to xir. "What was that? Don't be scared to speak up, we need to get all the important stuff out of the way."
Xe took a breath. "I understand that we should move on, mes amis, but can I... may I get something off my chest?"
"Please do!" Yaomomo exclaimed. "We should move on eventually, yes, but it's also important that we clear the air between us and talk about boundaries that may have been violated, or not brought up to begin with. This goes for anyone, I doubt xe is the only one with something to say."
"Thank you, mon cher," xe said, a bit lighter. "I just need to ask, may we not always make a big deal when one of us, how do you say... 'defies the norm,' I suppose? What I'm trying to say is, myself or Sero-chan or Iida-chan or Kiri-chan wearing a skirt, shouldn't be more of a shock than Ura-chan or Yao-chan wearing one."
