Fire is mesmerizing but dangerous, just like her.

She was born to survive, she was destined to burn the world. Living in the streets of Ketterdam, fear was not an option. She could not fear death, nor people, nor herself.

With her hands covered in flames and her heart locked up with a lost key, she learned to live the hard way, even if the world gave her the opportunity to have an easy life.

Ravka and the Second Army were never an option for her. Daughter of one of the members of the Merchant Council, she put on nice dresses and pretty smiles. She hosted dinners in the name of her father, organized parties for the Council, and poisoned the happiness in men.

Ekaterina Sokolov was different from other women. She was zowa, a witch, she was fire. An always burning poisonous and lethal flame. She was Grisha, and a powerful one too.

Away from her home, sailing the True Sea with her crew, doing her father's work aboard a trader, she comes upon two peculiar individuals. The crew called them fantomen. Both so pale and fragile.

Ekaterina Sokolov said her goodbyes to the two in a Novyi Zem port. She then left to travel back to her home, ready to become the two-sided person she always was. A gentle and caring woman on one side, but a cutthroat and a witch on the other.

But the Saints had other plans. She found herself sailing to Ravka and fighting in a war that wasn't her completely.
