I tried to make myself small
for the benefit of others.
To make them feel safe and secure.
It's not a popular notion
in this era of unapologetic
but if it meant keeping the peace,
I would at least try.
But
making myself small did not work
nor did it feel natural,
for as small as I could make myself,
I could not, for the life of me,
deny the living word of my existence
and neither could they.
