I practically sprint out of the ceremony when I have my official degree and have gotten rid of my gown, having had enough of the overheated room filled with my fellow classmates. When I'm outside I take a deep breath while smiling, my head titled to the blue sky. "Del we made it" one of my best friends Wren says making me look over at the brunette, "we sure did" I reply and take her hand squeezing it. "Well aren't you guys the cutest" I look over my shoulder to see the last of our trio Émilie walking over while smiling, "we try" she laughs and we fall into a group hug while giggling. "Look at our girls" the three of us let go of each other turning to where our parents are standing. They have their cameras out so we each put on our caps before posing for the pictures that are sure to get framed when it's all said and done.
A few minutes later I'm saying goodbye to my two closest friends with the promise to text them later so that we can plan what to pack for the grad trip we're finally going on after four hard years of university. "We're so proud of you sweetheart" my mom says as I slide into the backseat of the family car, "you already said that maman" I tell her with a smile, "I will keep saying it as long as I want" she replies making me laugh as my dad drives away from the university campus. As I look out my window reflecting on everything I can't help but smile, remembering all of the great parts of the past four years at the university that taught me more about myself than anything else. Tears prick the corners of my eyes, I shake my head quickly dabbing at the unexpected emotions welling up. "Are you going to miss it?" My dad asks from the drivers seat, "yes, but it's time to move on from that chapter and start a new one" I reply with a smile, "when did my daughter get so wise?" I laugh at his question, "somewhere between the grad ceremony and this moment" he chuckles and the car falls into a silence for the rest of the drive home.

The Grad 2020 coffee mug my parents gifted me sparkles as I place it on my desk before pulling out my phone to FaceTime Émie and Wren. "Bro I still can't believe we're done" Wren exclaims when she appears on my screen, "ditto girl" Émie replies seconds later, "all that we have now is this trip" I tell them with a smile. "Okay true, let's get this packing done because I honestly feel like I'm in a crisis trying to figure out what to bring" I laugh at Wren's statement and walk over to where I have my suitcase open. The first thing we decide we need are our swimsuits, "you gotta take that bright red two piece Del, its always a crowd favourite" I roll my eyes but know that Emie is right so I put the red bathing suit into my bag. After a few more hours of going back and forth we have our suitcases packed to the brim for our two week trip to Monte Carlo.
I pull my suitcase off my bed with a thud before rolling it next to my door so that i'm ready for tomorrow. My purse, which holds my passport, boarding pass and wallet, is placed on top of the luggage to keep everything together. I proceed to flop back onto my bed with a sigh, grabbing the latest book i'm reading, getting immersed once more into the story. A few minutes later my phone vibrates pulling me out of my concentration on the book. I pick up the device once i've dog eared the page I was reading, a new text is waiting in the group chat I have with Émie and Wren.
émie We gotta go karting when we're in Monaco
ren YES we gotta, can we Del? Del-ah Sounds like fun! Let's for sure do that
émie HELL YES THIS IS GONNA ROCK, and I'm going to destroy you guys at karting
ren We'll see about that babe 😉
I laugh at the competitiveness between my friends but smile as I leave our group chat to go to Instagram. I scroll through my timeline seeing what I missed, I'm not surprised to see many pictures from graduation considering I follow a lot of people who finished the same program as me. Their various drawings commemorating the celebration has me grinning and sliding off of my bed to get to my computer getting inspired by the art.
Before I know it hours have gone by and my fingers are slightly cramped from messing around on my drawing app. The end result makes me smile proudly, I save the drawing before sending it to myself so that I can add it to the posts I saw on Instagram.
